I've always thought Liverpool should declare themselves a Republic and play in the Faroe Islands League.....
On that note, I think it's pertinent that 'Pool could have solved all of its problems by selling Goofy to Arsenal for £40,000,001, when they were offered it, instead of illegally breaching Goofy's contract. So it's not as if they can claim that the situation was forced on them. Even more reason for the FA to act, now.
I'd rather they have a loss. Just what we need would be The Goons with one of the best strikers in the world. At least at L'pool there's a good chance Real will come and take him.
If we do fail FFP then may we be chucked out of Europe, (If we get Europe.) However, we wont fail FFP, so it s not a problem.. Some good straw clutching going on here though. Very impressed
"Some good straw clutching going on here though" Nah, a Goonish springtime collapse will suffice for that.
If we get chucked out of Europe, ill hold my hands up and say fair enough. But it is not going to happen. The explanation on the Chelsea board is ure speculation. Without seeing the breakdown of the revenues losses, it is impossible to say wether we would fail or not. Therefore nobody knows, but seeing as these figures are 18 months out, if the club was on that unstable a footing then im sure players would have been sold last summer. We will just have to see what happens, I think we will be fine though.
I said it was impossible because I'd be very surprised if UEFA had the balls to throw a significant club out of the tournament for the first time they fail FFP. Liverpool would get their lawyers on it straight away and it's far more likely you'll get a fine and a warning unless you've managed to miss the FFP cut off in a big way. What I wouldn't be surprised about is is it's found you are not compliant with FFP given your recent financial results. You might think they'd just have sold someone or bought less to balance the books but even the biggest clubs don't always know what they're doing. Barca though they could get away with hiding payments for Neymar, Palace bought more players then they could fit in their squad and Cardiff didn't agree whether their budgets were to including wages or not. The idea that Liverpool might have misforcast, misunderstood the rules or made anyother mistake that could leave them in breach of FFP is entirely possible.
AFAIK, the basic requirement of UEFA FFP is a TOTAL MAX loss of 40m odd quid over a 3 yr rolling window. So if last season was year 1, then as long as the Poool make a net profit of 10m odd for the following two seasons, they would scrape across the line. Wonder if UEFA have dispensation on the exchange rates for the UK (do they define a fixed GBP/EUR exchange rate for the assessments) ??
yep, they'll be fine as they'll have CL money coming in next year. And if they don't then they probably don't care too much about being kicked out the EL
"yep, they'll be fine as they'll have CL money coming in next year." That doesn't guarantee an annual balance sheet in the black. I do reckon UEFA would go hard on a PL club first though (Platini seemed to concoct the FFP cos of Citeh, not foreseeing PSG nor the financial realities of their La Liga darlings) .
I'll believe the FFP is anything other than window dressing the moment it costs a team Europe. Until then I'm chalking it up to the usual desire to make the right noises about solving a problem without actually having the balls to do anything meaningful to solve it.
The danger is that UEFA, in their "wisdom" may decide to pounce on a relatively insignificant transgressor to try and show that they mean business. I agree, though, that any major European side will much more likely than not escape unpunished.
