In among Tan's latest offering I notice that's he's taking credit for the signing of Javi Guerra on a pre- contract agreement from Real Valladolid. Prolithic in the Spanish league with 65 goals in 127 appearances. Not sure how that compares with Campbell's 5 Premier League goals but he is 31, despite being on a free.

Does this deal depend on Premier League status next season? <laugh>

stupid to sign a player when we dont know what division we'll be in.

he probably just looked on a sheet of paper at the top scorers in the major leagues, not rocket science.

We'll need to score goals whatever division we're in!

I know nothing about the guy, I can't imagine how Tan has expert knowledge of him either tbh.
I watched a few YouTube clips when we were linked in January and he looked a finisher. At least he's scored in a genuine top league. Whether the Championship will be a massive culture shock is a whole other question though.

if he did that we'd be looking at ronaldo, messi, lewandowski, huntelaar, villa, balotelli so it was clearly a little more in depth than saying I WANT THAT ONE

I reckon he reads the SHOOT magazine every week and being so arrogant and rich he thinks he can own anyone he chooses. So much for ogs statement that he deals with all matters football wise don't it...

here's a funny thought maybe OGS wanted to sign Javi Guerra

No such thing as a free, really though. Why would he wait 6 months to move , when you had agreed to buy out his contract in January....because he gets the millions as an immediate signing on fee. Take that/wages/time of contract into account and you will be commiting quite a bit of cash to him.

He was linked with us 3 years ago but it went dead, I think because he was in the lower leagues and doesnt fit the mantra of buying players who can also be an investment as well as asset, or just lazy journalism as he shares the same agent as Michu. Since then he has done well at Valladolid when they went up.

There are only 3 reasons he hasnt joined you yet, he gets big bucks on the free this summer, or, the pre contract is not as water tight as Tan believes.

I only pointed the age being 32 1/2 for a player untested in the UK, as I thought you were supposed to be just investing in younger players (or am I wrong?)

I think youth is very much the policy but goals are such a difficult thing to buy that the rule is there to be broken.

Klinsman and Larsen spring to mind as 2 obvious examples of the big clubs signing old strikers who've got a couple of good years left in them. We're obviously a lot further down that scale and this guy is a lot more of a punt!! Could be inspired, could be an expensive mistake at least he has some pedigree.

I think the market is so competitive for young strikers with the potential to score goals at PL level we can't even contemplate it. Carrol and Lukaku cost £55m based on a good season in Belgium and about 9 top level goals for Newcastle. They were also signed by Chelsea and Liverpool so it's very unlikely (tongue in cheek!) they'd have signed for Cardiff even if we did have a spare £55m knocking about. There are exceptions but for every Benteke there are 10 Cornelius type failures.

Benteke is hot and cold for me

Benetke cost 9 million. Easily worth it considering the way he played last season - almost single handedly kept Villa up with his goals.
