Armchair Supporters

Lads should all look up to their dads, and as such should be inclined to follow whoever their dad supports. Failing that, follow whoever is the local team where they grow up. My son(s) will, when I have him/them, be conditioned from a very early age to be Leeds fans, and that's the way it should be. This lad whoever he is will never experience a proper match because old troughord is a library at the best of times, full of people who have no real passion for the game and wouldn't know anything about football if a book of football knowledge slapped them in the face.

manchester united represent everything that is wrong with football, and the fact they just keep growing and growing and have a worldwide catchment area absolutely sickens me. Here's to the local club and heritage!

As a life long wall fan I have seen the ups and downs is what I meant if that is a bit clearer for ya

I live in Dartford, so of league clubs Charlton may well be the nearest, but my dad used to live right next to the old den and is millwall through and through so I never had a choice lol, but im glad of that. A load of my mates were Arsenal and united, and yeah I knew a United fan who had never been to a United game - even when they played london teams, and he lived in Lewisham. Think its odd, you'd always go to your local club surely? I go down to Princes Park and see Dartford sometimes (I'll be going to see both Dartford v Millwall and Dartford v Southend in pre season - to see Chopper play again though!)
Even at Uni I go and see the local team.

Then these Glory hunters go and try and give football banter don't they! Not a clue!

Although to be fair, if you're brought up in a not very footballing family then you have to find your own club, and seeing United etc on TV regularly might help you form some kind of attachment.


But I'd much prefer to be a 'wall fan and have promotions and relegations than sit mid table in the prem or something like Bolton do every single season.

I make a point of editing any comments after if I see a spelling or grammar mistake just in case you get a smart alec remark back but were all human and no ones perfect.

Never experiencing any highs or lows must be boring and going through the lows makes us experience the highs but plastics wouldn't appreciate that.

As it happens, I was a Lions fan in the early fifties and have never supported another (English) club. These days i tend towards rugby league as its our biggest sport, though soccer is getting there. I was chuffed to bits when Tim Cahill made into the English league and signed with 'wall. Though I've never seen him play for a club side I was in England when Australia beat England. As the only Aussie supporter in the pub (anyone remember the Gloucester Arms in Rolls Road?) I had to sneak out at the end.
