Winds are fairly big here too. If I was out sailing in this, it would probably be a quite hairy, at this point. I'd guess about Force 8, maybe even a touch of 9. There are times when you're arguably safer at sea than on land, if out in the open. Surprisngly, this is possibly one of them. I notice the barometer has just bottomed out [locally at Bramble Bank], so the winds will start to die down if the air pressure begins to rise steadily.

Quoting from that article, Brevik says... "You've put me in hell ... and I won't manage to survive that long," he wrote. "You are killing me."

This is because the prison authorities won't give him access to more adult video games and a PC to replace a typewriter.

    Good grief..!

Been playing this browser-based nation-building/political simulator for a few years (with a couple breaks, heh), and I might as well throw the link up here if anyone is interested. A warning: with the exception of wars (which happen roughly every year and last a couple months), the pace of in-game development is glacial. To say that it lacks action would be an understatement on the same level as suggesting that West Ham lacks flair. Additionally, the most important time during conflicts is when the game day rolls over...which happens to be 6am in your time zone.

Now that I have you all hooked: the political side is actually fairly interesting at times, the community is fairly entertaining, and the pacing means that you can devote as much or as little time to it as you want (unless that's less than a couple minutes most days, at which point the insane person in our alliance will scream bloody murder) in peacetime with a slightly larger commitment when wars happen. Also, most communications happen over IRC, if you happen to have a fetish for things that ceased to be relevant in 1998.

If anyone is interested, here's the link to sign up: http://www.cybernations.net/default.asp?Referrer=Schad

Yes, it's a referral link, but I'm not doing it for the referral bonus (which is minimal, to say the least). But I've recruited so many people over the years and never actually use the link, so this time I shall. If anyone does create a nation, link it here/PM me and I'll give you a rundown on joining our group and assorted things that are good.

The real gauge for wind, as we know, is Fran's fence.

    Update please Fran?

Here's the data from Bramble Bank. The data collector is stuck on a long pole right in the middle of the Solent, so what Fran is getting this gets slightly worse. I occasionally look at sailing weather data, even when I'm not sailing, as it is far more accurate in terms of what is happening locally.

Bramblemet is good too, and you can also get data by clicking on Sotonmet, etc:

To a large extent, yes. Many of the early alliances (where early = 2006, when it started up) are the descendants of groups in NS...they ported over en masse, and were joined by off-site communities from major websites (Fark, Something Awful, /b/ before they got well and truly banned). It peaked at about 45k people; now it hovers around 10k.

Also, the foreign ministry of Norway once mistook one of the alliances for a neo-Nazi cell and started a diplomatic kerfuffle over it, so there's that.

Post the nation link once you've created it, just so I know who is who, and I'll hit you up in-game.

Also, if possible hang on to the cash that you start with so that we can max out its use.
