Alright, I've been basking in sunshine on the Oyl of Wight all day, but hardly any cricket played at the Rose Bowl. How can you northerners stand it? I suppose you're made of sterner stuff than us southern softies.

Think the rose bowl must have its own micro climate, cos its not rained anywhere near as much in Gosport. They were off for bad light when it was sunny here!

Tell me about it........I live about 15 minutes walk away from the Rose bowl Since around 11 we have probably had about an inch of rain in the form of showers. Think it is just coming out nice you look to the west and there's more following. Got bloody soaked playing golf early am. :steam:

It's rain conveniently every time I've stepped outside today, stopping as soon as I got on the bus after getting drenched - typical.

Just a side issue. If you live on the Island but aren't born here, you're an overner.

Richmond makes me want to die. The worldwide home of boredom and tedium.

Similarly, if you were born on the island and live there, you're probably inbred.

Watched Newport from about 1990 till they get promoted to the Premier League (can't remember name of it). I saw the best times until money problems were their downfall. Remember Barney and Soares, and Grainger was the goalkeeper. Good team and gave me a lot of pleasure at the time. Always good to win. Never good with names I'm afraid.

Would you have been watching in season 1997/98? I played with a striker called Clifton Soares and seem to recall a young lad calle Barney. Stuart Ritchie ( now manager of Totton) was there then. Any recall?

Yes, had a season ticket (cost £50). Clifton Soares was fantastic in the Beazer Home League as was Barney. Only stopped supporting them because I hardly got to games because of my Saints season ticket. I reckon I watched them during their best spell, but it's hard to make non-league football pay. Do you remember the time we had a run in the FA Cup and appeared on TV a few times. Our manager couldn't invent anything new to say and just kept saying, I know who's dressing room I'd rather be in. Also the win at the Dell in the Hampshire Cup..the bus driver got lost and everyone turned to me for advice! Not a good idea, though we got there.

I was gutted for the cup final at the Dell; I was in the bench! I played up front with Clifton Soares and Eursh Fearon. Intact David Puckett played that year too! I was there after the cup run, but the year we bear Aldershot at St Georges park in the FA Cup; I scores the first - a tap in after Soares had hit the post. I wonder if we met?

Doubt it..I was one of the mint-suckers in the stands. Still got the advertising poster for the 1998 Cup Final pinned to a board in my kitchen. Found a cutting about the promotion season (2000-2001)...forgotten Tony Mount was the manager. They struggled in the Premier League. Had some good times..lots to be said for non-league football. Remember the gold cup..the most valuable cup in football as it actually is solid gold. All our yesterdays.

Fran, I'm still in touch with Tony Mount. Not seen him for a few years, but still text abuse now and again. I thought they were all mint suckers at Newport apart from the boys behind the goal.
