Hence the reason the stadium is half empty every other week. No excitement in the title race. The only excitement the fans have to look forward to are the CL and the cups. If you think otherwise you're badly deluding yourself.
I agree this season has been a disaster , the most worrying thing has been our fans disappearing , playing in a huge stadium half full , must make it hard for the players to motivate themselves .We used to attract players on the promise of playing in front of 60000 every week, now these players are happy to play relegation battles in the big 5 leagues across europe on ridiculous wages. I think we would be better concentrating in getting the youth players Watt , Henderson , Fraser etc in to our team than buying 1/2 million foreign duds .
Aye you're right, let's just promote The Rangers straight back to the Top Flight and give them our money, that'll make things more competitive.
We "only" won the league by 16 points last year, with a better set of players too. We also got pumped out the league cup by St Mirren ffs. It seems bizarre to me that Lennon gets blamed for a perceived decline in standards when I'm sure he would have loved to keep the Hoopers, Wanyamas etc and build on that team. It's not his fault he wasn't able to.
What an utterly bizarre thing to say. I, and others, have said the Board are just as responsible for the decline in quality. But we have enough to be winning more than we have.
So how else do we create excitement in the SPFL? If the league is a cakewalk for the next 5 years I personally don't care, it is what it is. It is impossible to "Create" excitement in a league where there is little or no real challenge for the title.
We can't. That's the point I'm making. Without the excitement of the league we need the cups and the CL. You say you don't care if the league is a cakewalk but thousands will and they will stop going to games. Losing cup games when they matter more now than ever is criminal. Losing them in the style we did to Morton and Aberdeen is utterly unacceptable.
So essentially you're disappointed we aren't in with a chance of winning a cup? Fair enough. And sacking the manager will prevent any future cup "upsets"? Because we had none before Lennon and will suffer none after?
Aaaarrrrggh! How many times?!? The circumstances are different now. Without Rangers we have no challenge in the league. It doesn't look like any other team is going to rise to the challenge. The cups matter more now than ever because it's the only real excitement, besides the CL, we have to look forward to.
Dev is right, the League is the most important thing, the cups are a bonus. I dont really care about the cups, its just a good day out for the fans if you get to the final. On the other hand, now that there is no competition for the league, we should be in a better position to play full strength in the cup games and we should really be winning them. You can accept failure in one of them but failure in both has to be considered not good enough, especially being out of Europe a long time ago. I didnt see the game but according to the lads on here, it was the players who were not putting it in, Lennon may have played Samaras who people are saying isnt interested anymore but these are supposed to be professional players, the team he put out should be good enough to beat Aberdeen at home after taking the lead. Talking about sacking Lennon just now is completely absurd, despite not winning the cups, they are not that important in the grand scheme of things. The thing I see most that is missing is a star player, a player that brings the fans in every week, as long as I can remember we always had at least one or two. That is what makes the big clubs, even when they dont have amazing teams, they always have at least one star player. Ive said it before but the board are taking liberties with that club just now and I blame them for the lack of ambition more than I blame Lennon for anything. The worst part of this season for me was the Champions League, after a good start in Milan the rest was pretty much embarrassing for a club of our size, but Lennon was working with the weakest bunch of players in the tournament and a two-bob budget so again, its hard to blame him.
No previous manager has had it as easy in the league ... Lennon could have one team in the league and had a fresh team to play Aberdeen ...
The League is a stick on from Day 1 ... just now, without real competition. Celtic should then concentrate on winning the cups and doing well in Europe.
cocking would be more appropriate. Do you know its illegal in mexico to have sex with a live fish but not a dead one? I do.
We could have maybe kept Hooper & Ledley, and offered Samaras a contract to tempt him to try if we didnt sign a Balde, or a Boerigter, or a pukki. Wanyama wanted out so was always going to go so Lennon has to take a wee bit of blame for squadering it.
