Mingolet is half the keeper that Reina is. I'd kill for his distribution right now. Sure, Ming stops shot....that's his job!!! It's probably too late but BR needs to get on his knees and beg for Reina to come back at the end of the season.

Toure is ****e. I never want to see him in a red shirt again. BR needs to accept that when he's forced to put a player like him on the pitch, give him simple instructions to hoof it! Was Ilori really a worse option than him? <yikes> what a waste of money then!

Cissokho needs to learn how to pass a ball. Surely we could of bought someone form some third division reserve team to replace him while we waited on injuries returning? Drop him now. Let him play ping pong with Toure on match days.

Gerrard is not a DM, he can't do the job without dragging half the midfield into a much deeper position to support him leaving nothing to link up play with the forward line. If you're going to play with two deep lying midfielders, playing two forwards is a luxury. Sure they track back occasionally but we'd be better with one up front and 3 true midfielders feeding Suarez. Haven't checked but I'd guess our away from was better when we had to play one up front. Would be an interesting stat.

It's all very well playing skillful midgets in midfield but a good big un will always beat a good little un....at least that what they used to tell me at boxing training. In short, how lightweight are we? Yaya Toure probably weighs as much as 3 of our players. Need to get some steel in the middle of the park urgently.

Sterling has looked so much better but his lack of composure in the final third is infuriating. If you don't have that, what's the point? Guy should be making sure he stays on at training working on this. Could be great, really could.

Suarez and Sterling. If we're protecting a lead or trying to balance a team against very good opposition, is there really space for both of them? Sure when we want to take the sword to the opposition or if we need a goal......Is BR scared to drop Sturridge? I'd never drop Suarez. Maybe he's thinking about what impact that's have on him next year?

Let's be honest. Fourth is ours because Utd, Spurs and to a lesser degree Everton are under-performing. BR needs to think long and hard about how to address some of the obvious problems before it's too late. Fourth is ours to lose. Yesterday, we tried our best to lose it much quicker than any of us would like.

Calm down. I think your over reacting a bit here.

Mignolet is a lot younger than Reina and is very good for his age.

Gerrard can play DM but is a tad inconsistent atm.

Sterling and Suarez do a lot of the chasing and creating and are always a positive asset. Sterling is also very good defensively.

only read the first point but wasn't it penny pinching from the owners the reason why reina went on loan, if that was brendans decision he needs a word with himself, but migs was brought in for long term benefit and eventually take over, its just a shame that we had to rely on him straight away as jones is hardly a threat to his position how ever **** he has played.

we had 2 very good goalies, unfortunately we had more penny pinching from the owners or they could be rotating now and giving each other a kick up the arse to perform.

we have the team to get 4th, unfortunately it looks like the longer the game goes on, the more you know we have fecked up our chances to get a positive result out the game, all our goals or most need to come in the first half, or we run out of ideas, and certainly don't have the subs to do **** all about it.

I can't abide these digs at Mig (Appreciate it's not just you, OP), he's very young for a keeper and his shop stopping ability is miles better than Reina's flappy hands ever were. I agree his distribution is a bit w**k but I think that will improve, plus Reina used to play it out from the back more wherease Mig hoofs alot, but i think he's been told to do that..? :/

As for the rest of the points, they are symptoms of a threadbare squad that should have been rectified at least marginally this January but for whatever reasons (I have my opinions) it wasn't possible and it could have big implications for the run-in for 4th this season. As if Cissokho should be anywhere near our starting 11, he's acceptable for 3rd round FA cup games at best, a cheap filler player.

That's just it. I don't think any of it is over-reaction. Frustration, yes. I actually think that 4th should be virtually in the bag already as the others look awful too but BR has got it wrong at pivotal times. Southampton, Hull, Villa, WBA. All winnable games that we've looked awful, truly lost, tactically inept.....That's 10 points lost. Where would we be with that? <whistle>

Yeah, play the ball out for Skrtel to hoof instead. Our problem was yesterday was lack of movement, the score went to 1-1 and we created next to nothing for the final 30 minutes of the game. I'm not that bothered about yesterday, could of been worse considering how bad we played.. But with that said, I do think Rodgers needs to address something, we let our heads drop when we concede. Suarez suddenly becomes more irritated, and our wide players start to look disinterested. Some serious psychological issues going on here.

Mings distribution is poor but he's pulled off some fantastic saves

And BR getting on his knees to any player shouldn't be happening

Napoli currently sit 3rd in Serie A and are 15 points behind Juventus

They have conceded 26 gls in 22 games in which Reina played 15 I think

He was certainly in goal when they lost 3-0 at the weekend to Atalanta with Reina making an error

"Reina should have coped much better with Denis' powerful strike but the Spaniard instead allowed the ball to slip off his gloves and end up in the net."

My point is I dont think he's as good as he was

Reina was going to leave and still plans to. Why build a team with players who wont be around much longer. We build for the future.

Migs is a good shot stopper for sure but that's just a part of a keepers job. Given BR's wish to build from the back, his distribution is a key part of his job. Reina was also a good shot stopper and made a few mistakes as all keepers do but he was imperious at beginning attacking moves. I'd crawl over broken glass to have him back AND keep Migs....He'd learn a ton from Reina. Agree with Jenners though that it's probably down to money.

As for a threadbare squad. We bought Ilori, Aspas and Alberto for a combined £25m (ish). If 2 of these 3 players were actually usable, it'd be a little less threadbare. So part of that is down to BR and the transfer committee themselves.

Gerrez, I've been pretty consistent with my views about this, win, lose or draw. Of course the frustration is at it's highest when we throw away a perfectly good chance to cement fourth.

He makes mistakes. Sure. As Does Migs and every decent keeper. But all that being equal, give me Reina's distribution anyday. How many times did we concede possession yesterday from Migs?

I think most of the responses on this thread have been more than reasonable and I don't need to repeat them. If BR has any sense he'll accept that he has to work with what he's got and help them make the best of what they've got.

for me i've had my say on reina. it was stupid then its stupid now but we are where we are. it is the listless, lazy performances that get my goat... it was just plain bad

We've played worse and won, we've played better and lost..
We grabbed a point, from a side that's taken a fair few off the likes of United, City, Chelsea, Everton...
Players had a bad day, it happens (look at Barca, they lost to Valencia, is that not meant to happen).
During the interview with Sky, BRod himself stated that he think's we're a year ahead of schedule, he thought we'd be "serious" top 4 challangers next year, but it appears we're ahead of schedule.

Anyway, I'm always one to spin a positive..
If the battle for 4th remains as tight as it is now until the end of the season, well, we've got some decent plus points/advantages already.
    1 - Most goals scored
    2 - Best goal difference
    3 - Better head-to-head against Everton
4 - Unless the Spuds beat us by the same score, we'll have a better head-to-head against them.

Teams don't just have to over turn the points deficient, they have to overturn the above as well, and with only 14 games left, I don't see them doing that (GD and Goals scored at least!)

There was a lack of urgency which was added to with a crappy pitch and WBA fouling us to break up play, that's no excuse though we should have put in more effort and won.

Guessing you didn't see Reina's error yesterday for Atalanta's first goal? Stick Atalanta v Napoli into YouTube to see it. Shot straight at him and he dives over it.

Everyone's taking digs at Mig but forget Reina's basic errors in his last few years with us. You say it's the keepers job to stop shots... Well Reina wasn't doing that... For all his excellent 60 yard passes, if he can't do the first job then you may as well stick Gerrard in goal.

But does he have much choice?

Who is the best DM option if Lucas is out? Gerrard.

Agger and Sakho have had several injuries this season.

Reina wanted to go and a change was needed.

Tactics has nothing to do with it.

I actually think part of the blame in some cases goes to Coutinho and Henderson for not doing their bit defensively, leaving Gerard under to much pressure.

“Mingolet is half the keeper that Reina is. I'd kill for his distribution right now. Sure, Ming stops shot....that's his job!!! It's probably too late but BR needs to get on his knees and beg for Reina to come back at the end of the season.” – Disagree there mate, I think Reina has been in decline for the past 2 years and was becoming a liability. Accept his distribution was better, but that doesn’t keep clean sheets. We got rid of an unreliable Reina, not the one we had 4 seasons ago,

“Toure is ****e. I never want to see him in a red shirt again. BR needs to accept that when he's forced to put a player like him on the pitch, give him simple instructions to hoof it! Was Ilori really a worse option than him? what a waste of money then!” Completely agree, I think he was brought in to give the back 4 a bit more experience, but we have better younger Def’s that I’d rather blood than play Toure

“Cissokho needs to learn how to pass a ball. Surely we could of bought someone form some third division reserve team to replace him while we waited on injuries returning? Drop him now. Let him play ping pong with Toure on match days.” – I was excited when we signed him, he looked excellent, f**k knows whats happened to him but he is awful.

“Gerrard is not a DM, he can't do the job without dragging half the midfield into a much deeper position to support him leaving nothing to link up play with the forward line. If you're going to play with two deep lying midfielders, playing two forwards is a luxury. Sure they track back occasionally but we'd be better with one up front and 3 true midfielders feeding Suarez. Haven't checked but I'd guess our away from was better when we had to play one up front. Would be an interesting stat.” I think Gerrard is good in the DM role, his passing yesterday was good and he sot stuck in. I agree with your point on the formation though, we do drop too far back and we get flooded in MF, much worse than anything that Noah lad had to deal with.

“It's all very well playing skillful midgets in midfield but a good big un will always beat a good little un....at least that what they used to tell me at boxing training. In short, how lightweight are we? Yaya Toure probably weighs as much as 3 of our players. Need to get some steel in the middle of the park urgently.” Amen brother

“Sterling has looked so much better but his lack of composure in the final third is infuriating. If you don't have that, what's the point? Guy should be making sure he stays on at training working on this. Could be great, really could”. The same thing annoys me about Sterling as it did McManaman, there is no point beating 3 men if you keep losing the ball or producing nothing out of it, you may as well just pass 5 yrds forward and maintain posession.
