OK so Stoke are the next visitors and hopefully bar Chambers we have no new injury worries. Only question for me is who starts with Morgan. Based on the 2nd half at Fulham I think Cork has to get the nod. So for me it's Boruc Clyne Fonte Maya Shaw Morgan Jack Jrod Davis Adam Rickie Subs KD Chambers Jos Vic JWP Guly Gallagher Let's hope we can keep our recent form going. COYR!
No Vic on the bench? If, and that's a big if, he's fit he should start. Stoke are a physical side and a fully fit Wanyama would be very effective. But he has to be 100% fit, if not then Cork starts.
100% agree. Vic won't be as slow and rusty as he was against Fulham. He will also be the ideal person to shut down Charlie Adam. And the same argument applies, Cork will be a better impact sub than Vic would be.
I'd go unchanged presuming Chambers is fit (I think Clyne should be worked in soon despite Calum having done excellently, but his height is a major advantage for this game) apart from Cork/Wanyama where I am happy whichever way Mauricio goes. The physical presence of Vic is obviously a huge plus against a side like Stoke and thus is probably the obvious pick, but considering we're at home and should massively dominate possession, Jack may be the better selection as his tempo play/distribution has been simply excellent in recent games. Gun to head I'd probably take Cork as it's the more attacking selection and we should be looking to impose ourselves on the game, but I wouldn't bat an eyelid if Poche went with Wanyama.
I am with you Lamballana, Vic has to earn his way back into the team or get the opportunity through injury/suspension in the same way that Cork did who after a dodgy first game has been absolutely great
I take Toms point about Stoke being physical but I think we need an early goal to make Stoke try to play. So for me Jack starts.
I wouldn't worry too much. Charlie Adam doesn't play like that every week. Just like Cameron Jerome (remember him), he may have the odd wonder goal in him, but he's not Luis Suarez. You have to be unlucky to come against him on a going day.
If Vic does start it will be a race to see who gets booked first between him and Charlie Adam. Neither hold back.
Ye i recall watching charlie adam every week at rangers. Swear it is a fluke when he plays well because most of the time he does not so hopefully saturday isnt an odd on day or wonder goal day for him
Everyone keeps saying that we shouldn't keep on about Wanyama v Cork all the time and yet, once again, that's all I'm reading here.
Well it's the key decision for the team really isn't it? There's really no discussion to be had at any other position other than somewhat between Chambers and Clyne, and Chambers may not even be fit. And I don't discount the idea that Wanyama and Cork could both play, but realistically it seems very likely they are competing for a spot in the team.
To be fair, with Osvaldo gone and Ramirez and Lovren injured, there isn't much else to talk about on a "Team for..." Thread!
Apart from injuries, Mauricio has the easiest job as the team picks itself. He just needs to decide Wanyama or Cork (and he does seem to like Vic). And if JWP plays (though he's not in favour at the moment). However, it is the subtle stuff he does well with little tweaks here and there...tactically Mauricio is very good...can spot what is wrong and correct it.
Great to see big Vic back, was very rusty but that is to be expected after 8 weeks out. He is exactly the type of player to combat stokes niggly and aggressive style. My team would be: Boruc Clyne Fonte Yoshida Shaw Wanyama Schneiderlin Lallana Davis Rodriguez Lambert Subs: Davis, Cork, Chambers, JWP, Hooiveld, Gallagher, Guly. Think Cork off of the bench would be a better impact sub then Wanyama. Of course, if he still isn't 100% fit, then definitely go with Cork, just feel that Wanyama's physical presence is exactly what will be needed for this game.
Wanny is a big guy without the best feet in the world...he was always going to need a few games to get back to speed. The question is will he get it with Cork in form....that's what happens when you get an injury...someone steps up.
I can understand the idea of combatting physical with physical but if we are not careful that can have the affect of dragging us down to their level. I'd rather play a Messi than a Vinnie Jones. Run them around in circles. I appreciate that we don't have Messi per se but you get the point!
