Mossey Joe He could be one of the bets of festivel if he heads for the foxhunters chase.shrewd irish owner barry o'connell splashed out 160k for the 11 year old which I must admit seems and awful lot for the old boy but this is a classy horse but he may also be aimed for the grand national.The money has come in for him already as he has been cut from 12s to 6s and is now the outright market leader for the fox chase.My question is for forum members is do you think there is still value at his current price as I can see this horse going off much shorter on the day.Does anyone have any info if he chelts or aintree bound.Im very tempted to put tonights beer kitty on him for the fox but the oul perils of ante post punting is creating doubt!cheers folks and enjoy the weekend

I'm on at 10s but 6s NRFB is still amazing value with Betvictor.
I honestly, honestly believe that all he had to do is stand up to win this if he arrives 100% fit (which is the main worry).
Have also done an each way double on him for the Foxhunters 6/1 & Grand National 33/1 with Boylesports who for some reason don't prevent you from doing this.

With regards to his targets, I'd be very surprised if its not Foxhunters then Grand National. My Mom knows one of Barry Connell's best friends and she'll get the low down on how he is etc in a couple of weeks.
Near the end of this ATR interview Garry O asks Barry Connell about his new acquisition Mossey Joe........
"I have had my eye on him for a while, when he ran in Killarney we where stood at the last fence, he was in the parade ring getting hosed down before the rest of the field had jumped the last! He's an absolute weapon of a horse! Now he's 11 he only has a couple of years left, he's gone to Edna Bolger who is the right man for these types of horses, we hope to get him to the Foxhunters, and he will get a Grand National entry, rated 148 he should be guaranteed to get into the race."
He looks like a fine beast of an animal to me, if you can get on @ 6's N/R free bet (Bet Victor Max £50) I reckon it's a shirt job! But I think N/R Free bet is only on the 4 Championship races?
Also the Foxhunters/Grand Nat Double worth a punt With Boyle if you can get the individual odd's, I doubt it tho as it's what the old enemy call a related contingency bet, i.e. they will offer you the one price for it to win both races.

I'm interested to see the plans for Habbie Simpson. Took to the hunter chase scene with a touch of class today winning by 11 lengths (pretty much hard held) and has alot of decent cheltenham form , maninly chasing home Bob's worth.......so trying to speak to a few friends to find out his plans.
Danny Mullins' track inexperience is a slight worry for Mossy Joe but have to admit I've also hopped onto this particular bandwagon as Sunday's Leopardstown race didn't scream Festival winner to me.

I've always liked On the Fringe (won a good few quid on his mother at the Listowel festival in the 1993) but agree that he was disappointing on Sunday.He emptied close home after cruising through to lead before the last.It is possible he may have needed the run but doesn't look a thorough stayer to me on heavy ground over an extended 3m.
If it came up very soft at the festival it would seriously hinder his chance imo.
Silly me, I see now this is an amateur/conditional riders event. I thought only the 4-miler race was restricted to these riders but it seems you're right Dex. My point's still valid though, about inexperienced jocks round there
I think from memory the last few winners have had the top amateur jockeys on board. Derek O'connor, Sweeney twice, Twiston-Davies, Burton, Greenall, McNamara have ridden the last 7 winners.

I've long had a soft spot for the horse and he's won me a fair bit on occasions so probably wouldn't be able to avoid investing a little of my refunded Mossey Joe bet on him if he was.

This looks a really poor renewal this year now we have Mossey Joe missing. Infact its worse than that Hunters Chase Mossey won at Stratford last year. Pearlysteps looks the solid UK horse, but he isn't a great recruit to the Hunters sphere. Anyone confirm which of the big Irish entries are likely to run?

I've backed Berties for the Foxhunters at 20s NRNB now with the defection of Mossey. He's qualified but apparently not guaranteed to get in.
The 2010 Albert Bartlett winner ran a fine race of a mark of 138 when 5th in last years Pertemps and I definitely think he ran up to his mark that day.
Although never as good under Rules over fences, he's won 2 P2P easily enough for Lauren Braithwaite this year and I'd still say he's capable of running to a mark of 130+ which should definitely have him somewhere in the mix.
Great Cheltenham form too which is a huge positive and he'd be one who would prefer to see a bit of give in the ground.

I see the filly that trains Berties Dream, Lauren Braithwaite, gave birth to triplets a month ago!
There has been an article about Berties Dream in the local media (a bit confusing as to why as Wiltshire is the best part of 200 miles away from where he is trained in Newmarket!). Old girl Lauren stated, “"He's pretty straightforward to train, but he is pretty lazy. You have to keep on top of him and make sure he is doing plenty of work. Gina Andrews has ridden him on each of his three runs and will ride him again next week. She has good experience of riding at Cheltenham. He's run in three point-to-points since he joined us. He finished third on his first run at Chaddesley Corbett and I think he just badly needed the run that day in very soft ground. He then won very easily in what was probably not a great race at Ampton and was then quite impressive in a better race at North Carlton. They went a good gallop that day and he was pulling away at the line. His best form is at Cheltenham and the big days seem to perk him up, so we're hoping that will be the case next week. I'm not expecting him to win, but it would be great if he went there and was competitive.”

Call me sentimental but I have had a little ew on last year's unlucky loser Oscard Delta at 10-1. Fairy tales do sometimes come true and I'd love to be part of it if this one does!
