They weren't clever they just formed football clubs before did and most were founder members of the league which enabled them to have years in the only division before we were formed and whilst Hull had 2 rugby league clubs. Leeds were late into football and like us had no success despite spending time in Division One. But they did have considerably larger crowds and back then there wasn't as much difference in population as there is now. You can do anything with figures but a few years ago a site published a list of all time average attendances. We were just behind Luton. Have a look at this link and click on teams to have a look at historical crowds. A lot of places smaller than us didn't drop so low for so long. Interesting. A few surprises in there if I'm honest. I wonder if anywhere has taken each seasons average attendance and made an all time average. That would certainly make interesting viewing.
It's very rare for me to comment on the football, there are quite a few posters who never post about the actual games. There are a couple of reasons why I don't. I have never played football as an adult and I find it difficult to post about tactics. For me home matches are a full weekend away from home and that means that I hardly every post as I don't have time. I spent years analysing games of hockey that I was involved in. Either as a player, team manager or umpire and to be honest, football was never like that for me. I enjoy watching Hull City and whilst I do not like us losing, I actually always find the matches enjoyable. Hockey was different, if my team lost I would look at why and make changes, it got beyond enjoyment and I don't want Hull City's matches to be like that. I can't watch hockey now as I get critical. If one team is losing I start to get angry if they don't change tactics. If the umpire makes a mistake I get on my high horse. It spoils it for me. Watching Hull City is a pleasure for me, win lose or draw, I don't care. I have never watched a match and thought that I would rather be doing something else. I love the buzz of away matches. Home matches are different, I sit in the West Stand Upper and I get completely absorbed in the game play. In my view we lost against Crystal Palace, because they closed us down, restricting our time on the ball. They stopped TH from distributing effectively. Jellybean dropped back five yards to deep and this stopped us from getting behind the defence. We passed the ball well but did not break the CP defence and gave the keeper the ball to punt up field to many times, resulting in a loss of possession. Meyer was a weak link who gave to ball away to easily under pressure. No one Long and Jellybean haven't had enough time to settle in and be affective. But we will be different today. There you are, it's complete bollocks and that's another reason why I don't post about football much!
Those Lancashire teams had plenty of years at the top later on when there were several divisions. City were formed in 1904. We can't say we were formed too late! Leeds might not have won trophies but they had "success" in that they had years in the top division.
They did. That was the list I referred to. We were just below Luton, though that was a few years ago so we might ha e overtaken them. Top London club was Spurs though again Arsenal will be catching up a bit since moving to the Emirates. I think Leeds were 12th. Used to have it bookmarked but seems to have disappeared. Will have to try and find it.
I'd like to believe that but i dont. If it isnt TG it will be the next man of the people whipping up the brain dead. The council would **** therself and change their mind.
