Sky Sports sources understand that Tottenham have turned down a £22million offer from Chelsea for Luka Modric.

The Croatian playmaker has emerged as one of the Premier League's most creative and stylish performers since arriving at White Hart Lane in 2008.

A series of sparkling displays for Spurs last season reportedly attracted the attention of several clubs, with Manchester United believed to be admirers of the 25-year-old.

However, it is Chelsea who are believed to have made the first move for Modric this summer, lodging a big-money bid for his services.

Tottenham rejected the proposal but it is understood that the Blues are planning to return with an improved offer that will further test their resolve.

Chelsea are currently without a manager after sacking Carlo Ancelotti but owner Roman Abramovich appears ready to invest heavily in the squad as he is determined to bounce back after a season without silverware.

Spurs have previously made it clear that they intend to keep hold of all their key players after missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification.

22 million, are they having a ****ing laugh? If they doubled the bid then perhaps negotiations might start. I find that valuation insulting.

I can't see this being true, for the simple reason that there's no way that they'd think we'd accept that bid.
They've probably made an enquiry about how much he'd cost or something.

<laugh>...A few things, firstly 22m???, from the same sources that say ManU are outpriced believing 50m would be needed for Modric. And secondly...the Chavs don't have a manager, and their chief exec who you imagine to be involved in any such bid, he's nowhere near Stamford Bridge, he's in Hong Kong, I heard this on...you guessed it, Sky Sports this morning.

Can I just say, Daniel, Harry, whoever... DON'T YOU ****ING DARE....

not to them, not to L'Arse, not to blue or red Mancs... if we need the money put him in another ****ing country.... PLEASE

If it is true -then you can expect them to come back with a better offer, don't forget Fergie is sniffing around too. Little Luka wants Champions League football and someone is going to offer a very lucrative deal for him to have that.

Stick to worrying about Nasri, Fabregas, Clichy and the rest of your bottlers, Piskie.

If Henderson cost £20m, then Chelsea clearly aren't interested in making a serious offer.

Seeing as you felt complelled to mention it, Nasri and Fabregas look like as though least their immediate futures are with Arsenal <ok>

Cesc: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13778733.stm
Nasri: http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/footba...d-arsenal-double-transfer-boost#ixzz1PMvZzULv

Which can only be a good thing for us <ok>

Clichy? To be honest he has had two poor seasons with us and has been more of a liability than an asset. Gibbs is looking like a better player now and has a great cross to boot <ok>

As for Modric- I think Chelsea are testing the water with an opening bid of £22m

"I won't step forward and say I want to join Barca", but I clearly do. - Fabregas.
That's encouraging?
If you say so...

Nasri's trying to get either a massive new contract or a move.
Totally transparent.

£22m testing the water?
That's not even near the water.
It's in the car, parked outside your house before you drive to the swimming pool, it's so far away.

Can we forget about Arsenal players for a moment? Good luck to them in their endeavours to keep hold of who they want but I prefer focusing on my own club and the issues there.

With regards to Modric, if we get 40 million plus offer I'd let him go. He deserves Champions League football and he deserves to be surrounded by top quality players. I rate him so highly I think he could go on to play for Barcelona and make an impact. It's the low level of bid which has me disgusted, as PleaseNotPoll said it doesnt even get anywhere near the water. I've no problem with any player leaving as long as the deal is satisfactory and respectful. All this nonsense about 'can't sell this person and that person is rubbish', there is always an alternative, always a player to fill the boots of a star given time and training. The issue Spurs have is our scouting network is poor putting that challenge firmly out of the window.

Regarding Nasri:

'Nasri’s agent has claimed the star’s priority is to talk to agree a new deal with the north Londoners, while Fabregas has declared he’s happy at the Emirates and won’t ask for a move.
‘I want to clarify that there has been no break with the Gunners over the contract renewal and we should meet again soon with Arsene Wenger,’ said Nasri’s representative Alain Migliaccio.
‘There are a few clubs interested in Samir, but it is useless to name them.
‘Before listening to other teams, we need and we want to talk with Arsenal.’

If Nasri want a massive new contract - we'll give it to him <ok>

And from Cesc:

"I am an Arsenal player. I have been very happy for eight years and I am very happy.
"I am very happy where I am. Anything else would be speculation that is untrue."
"there is a good team and a good manager and one of the most faithful fanbases in Europe. With those I believe we can make progress and one day win an important trophy."

:)<ok>

He is a top player, which is why he is so readily courted. If you're honest, you know that his level is suited to a bigger club than Spurs. Don't get me wrong, I think you should do all you can to keep hold of him, but it might be hard to convince him that his future lies at WHL when the big boys are already making their moves.

Well I was honest, why I said we should sell when we have the right money in our account, and that he could play for Barcelona one day given his talent. It's like all the nonsense you faced with Barca and Fabregas, hard to let a player go when you haven't got an respectable bid on the table. I've no qualms with letting him go as long as we're compensated well.

Agreed - a player's value is determined by how important he is to that club- and whether anyone is willing to accept and meet that value. With both Fabregas and Modric, they are key players to the creative heart of both our teams and therefore are both worth a lot to us. Both are good enough to play at a higher level and will naturally be coveted and courted by the likes of Barca. The difficulty is, even getting £35m - £40m for one of these players, still leaves the club in the position of trying to find a replacement. Speaking as a Gooner, I'd rather have Cesc than the money <ok>

I think there is too much unrealistic and unecessary pressure on players in general these days with regards to loyalty etc. Sure the fans have an affinity with Modric and I am sure there is a good level of respect on his part towards the club but I wish more would be open and willing with player sales. Simply ask a player whether his heart is in staying with a club or going and then proceed from there. You can keep a guy tied to a long term contract there is no point in keeping a player who wishes to be elsewhere. his value lowers, team morale suffers, it's all negative from there on.

Take a look at Wigan this summer, open to letting players / managers go when the time is right and the compensation at the right level. They're respected by players and by fans for the way they handle things. Nobody is going to ridicule you as a club if you sell a star player and then invest it in such a manner as to strengthen the team. Aka Anelka being sold, A certain person called Henry and a whole training complex was established from that.

The key ingredient in staying strong is through your scouting and networking with other clubs. We'd be taking the money to strengthen the team and letting a player move to the stage calling for him. It's a good deal for all parties involved if the money is right. There are options out there for less than half the money if we simply looked and gave them a chance to shine. We could strengthen 2-3 positions with 30-40 million so I think stubborness in the market is too often counter productive.

tell how can you strengthen a team by selling thier best player? you won't find anyone better,so you are weaking the team.if we sell modric say goodbye to a top 4 finish anytime in the immediate future

Pisskie. If you're going to try Wumming, try a bit harder eh! You make yourself so obvious when you immediately leap on some clearly ridiculous, alledged bid for Modric, whilst at the same time clutching desperately to any story that tells you Fabregas and Nasri won't leave. Talking about letting top players leave for bigger clubs, why don't you do the decent thing and let Fibreglass go. He's obviously desperate to get away.

Darren

Sorry mate , I disagree. We,as a club should be striving for the very top and the only way that would happen is by keeping our best players and getting in more top level players. If we sell Modders we might as well sell Bale and Vdv.

Your point about Modric being good enough for Barca so we should let him go is being disrespectful to us and our ambitions. Tottenham has competed with the very best in the past and we can do the same again, but we can only do it by holding onto our best players. If we need money theres 50m we can make from the sale of fringe players.
