http://www.scotsman.com/sport/footb...-leigh-griffiths-stevie-may-rangers-1-3286807 Rangers fans groups want Wallace answers RANGERS CEO Graham Wallace is set to face questions on the future of Lee Wallace when he meets with supporters’ representatives later today. Drew Robertson of the Rangers Supporters Association said: “Selling Lee would be almost an admission that the finances are not in great shape. “If they do sell him, they will never convince anybody that it was anything other than a financial necessity. If they do sell I don’t think anyone expects them to bring anyone else in.” (Mail)
This just came up on the BBC's transfer deadline day feed: "Business as usual" It seems that they do actually see selling players as some sort of weakness
Have you watched us this year? Wallace is the only player in the squad that's been anywhere near consistent for us the past year, **** it past 2 years.
I've hardly seen anything - just the Queens Park game that I can recall. I typed out a big response and deleted it cos it gets back into the old financial lecturing pish. In short, he's too good and worth too much for a 3rd tier team - any other 3rd tier team would bite the hand off that offers them that money - much less one that's trading at such an obvious massive loss. We've sold Ledley, we're trying to sell Samaras - two of our most high profile players but we need to keep the transfer fees coming in to operate.
The Wallace one is a poser though. Sell their best player, incur the wrath of the fans and suffer decreased attendances or Keep him, keep the fans happy but lose out on a pay-day which could be significant for the future of the club.
Is Lee Wallace the difference between fans turning up or not? I would have thought most fans would think aye fair enough we need to lower the running cost and a lump sum of cash can't hurt. Or do they still not get it?
We've just accepted a bid for £700k for Ledley. If we had Lee Wallace and were offered that (as long as we hadn't paid over the odds for him a few years ago), PL would jump at it. We need to keep money coming in from players when we can get it. Every Scottish club does.
Ledley is out of contract in the summer is he not? that's the only reason Celtic will get less than a million for him. Wallace is too good for the lower leagues. We do have too much deadweight, I said when it was decided we would be put in Division 3 that we should be signing experienced first division players to get us back into the top division without spending stupid amounts on players. Some people disagree and think a cup run is needed to keep the fans happy but I don't ****ing buy it considering no one turns up for a cup game unless its a semi-final/final. That ****ing idiot Stockbridge didn't know his arsehole from his earhole and gave McCoist free reign to sign a lot of useless players in my opinion, which is obviously contributing to our situation. Knocking back less than 1 million for Wallace was good business to me, simply because hes worth more than that, especially with English prices. As I said on thread on the rangers board I'd be surprised if we managed to get rid of anyone (bar Wallace) because the majority of them are runts who have come back to us worse than when they came to us originally. A lot of the rational Celtic fans on here hate the transfer policy as far as I can tell. Can you imagine what the irrational ****ing idiots that support rangers would do if we adopted something similar?
wallace may or may not be worth more than a million, i have no idea as i havent seen him play in a couple of years. however, the buying club know all about your financial situation. is wallace taking a massive gamble by not accepting the bid? forest have walked away and signed fox. what happens if no one else comes in and matches the valuation? do rangers fans expect to be challenging celtic as soon as they are in the spfl?
I don't believe for a second that its too much to hope for to keep Wallace. Hes the Scotland left back not the ****ing Brazil left back. No, I don't believe we will be immediately challenging Celtic, **** knows where in my post you got that from.
If a player who plays in the SPL is worth over a million, then plays in the fourth and third tier for two seasons, his value is depreciated enormously. Gary Hooper might not have scored for fun down south but he's worth more than he was with us, I'll wager. The league a player plays in has a massive effect on his market value as anyone who's watched any Scottish football over the last 15 years knows full well. If he was worth £1.4m in the SPL, he's now worth a MAX of £800,000 - even that's an absolute max.
Who was the last player Aberdeen sold for over £1m? Does anyone know - just out of context? Eoin Jess or Booth?
