Now either you were having a laugh when you typed this or you genuinely believe it but either way throw a few bob on it at the bookies, if you're correct it'll be a nice nest egg.
"Come on lads this is boring" I contend no such forecast has been written, Therefore the burden of proof is on the person who makes the claim, to support it with the relevant text. That people, is the scientific method. If I say the Christian Bible has written all Poool supporters are arrogantly deluded morons destined for eternal damnation, are you going to take my word for it ?? Or are you going to ask to see the "quote" ...
You are the kind of nice feller that would believe that such a quote exists in the bible, particularly because it involves Liverpool supporters.
"you lot should similarly not be amazed if you now finish behind Spurs in the league for 20 odd yrs." let me spell it out s-l-o-w-l-y for you ... you, lot, should, similarly, not, be, amazed, IF, you, now, finish, behind, Spurs, in, the, league, for 20, odd, yrs. Have you spotted it yet ??
Stop pretending you don't believe what YOU typed, but why should I not be amazed should Spurs finish above us for the next 20 years, that is a very bold statement for you to make tbf.
I'd be amazed if we finished behind Spuds this year never mind the 19 after that. You'll not even manage our 20 years of also ran at the top of the league. You lucked out with a skillful player who got hyped along with his price beyond all reason and then with that money you waved it at a load of players our scouts pointed at. Good luck with said players when you don't make CL. That'll be your one shot at permancy up here gone. Ask Blackburn: at least they won it while they paid to be there lol.
"Stop pretending you don't believe what YOU typed" Asking you not to be amazed IF a stated event occurs is a suggestion, not a "belief" . "but why should I not be amazed should Spurs finish above us for the next 20 years, that is a very bold statement for you to make" Not bold at all. That is football. If an Empire can go 20 odd yrs since its last league title and its glorious reign, then a club has no divine right to believe that another "small" club that betters it in the league for 4 consecutive seasons, CANNOT do so for 16 more. QED.
He thinks the magic word is "IF" but the whole sentence has to be taken into consideration as in we "should not be similarly be amazed", I'd be extremely amazed tbh.
Ok time out. I don't think Spurs are a small club and I'd be daft to think so, I suppose you are being defensive when you assume that others see them as "small", I do think that since Spurs first got a taste of CL football the fans assumed top 4 by right and looked upon us as a permanent spent force, but that's naivity.
"I'd be extremely amazed" Why ?? To be very relevant ... If somebody says to me today they'll be amazed if Man Utd don't win the league again for 20 odd years, I'll say : Why ?? It happened to the Empire before them. What makes them any more special than their predecessor ??
If buts and maybes.... I'll not celebrate finishing above Spurs anymore than above Swansea unless it's as first over second. Same as I'll never celebrate a 2,3 or 4th placed rosette. I'll take the opportunity it gives us to try and win the CL next year and at worst the cash it produces to try and strengthen enough to actually win the big trophies. but that's all it means. Call it arrogant but CL qualification isn't a cause for celebration in its own right unless you believe rubbing shoulders with good European teams is the only achievable end goal. If you've actually won it before you believe actually winning the bloody thing is the end goal. But if celebrating the "we won a better also ran smiley face than you" is your thing.........
"Call it arrogant but CL qualification isn't a cause for celebration in its own right" So to use your example : if Swansea qualify for the CL, they have no cause for celebration ??
Why?, because I trust our manager and owners to keep the clubs improvement momentum going. There is not the same feeling of stability at Spurs as us and you are desperately missing Bale's goals.
You can slate our outlay in league terms but I'd say as a supporter I'm content with a CL and other trinkets, ok I'm straw clutching but look at Newcastle's outlay over the years and they've won nothing, football is about winning not coming 4th or happy to have competed in any particular competition.
Celebrate what? Access to another competition? As I said, if you've never won it before, participation might seem exciting and yes as a fan it gives you more matches to get excited about but it's still not winning either trophy. Arsenal for example. Consistently qualify, even reached the final. Didn't win it, don't really expect to so start dancing and waving trying to make it a trophy in itself to qualify. Real, Barca, United, Bayern, AC, Juventus etc etc don't make a dance about qualification, why? Go to our Board, we'll talk about the importance of regaining CL to our continued development but with eventually winning both PL and CL again in mind as the goal. You'll not find a single red fan saying "as long as we always qualify for CL, that's me happy" Do you make that leap as a Spurs fan? We qualified, next target, win it? It doesn't sound like it. Sounds like you celebrate taking part as some kind of ultimate accomplishment. There are eastern European teams from leagues you've never watched that qualify every year. That must make them super.......
Not really what I meant. I meant you've had that big splurge, that big push with the Bale money and if you don't qualify, will these players hang around. They picked you based on that qualification and the extra wages you flashed after all. I'm sure if it's only a one year blip they will of course....
"Celebrate what? Access to another competition?" The fact they would have had to overcome so many far better resourced clubs than themselves in their domestic league ?? Access to a revenue stream that has primarily kept said clubs beyond them ?? No, I think they will have plenty to celebrate. Once they have done it often enough with no likelihood of winning it, then yes there is nothing to celebrate (Gooneritus) . Much like with Spurs. Celebrate finishing above the Poool to get CL in 2010 ?? Was a big deal. Celebrate finishing above the Poool in the PL nowadays ?? Is no big deal.
