Liverpool FC and the FC Dnipro have reached an agreement over the transfer fee for playmaker Yevhen Konoplyanka.

The reds have moved quickly in pursuit of the 24 year old Ukrainian after his name was leaked to the media by sources close to Dnipro and had upped their bid to £16M.

Liverpool FC have been gazumped over a number of transfer windows in their chase for targets - missing out for Willian in the summer, before last week losing out to Mohamed Salah.

Whilst FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk are heavily bankrolled by their billionaire owner and thus in no need to sell, the player is reported to be keen on a move to a bigger European league.

The Mirror quoted that the player himself said:

"LFC? I'm so excited about it and soon you will know where I will play.

"It's all very serious. I'm shocked myself. It will all be clear very soon."

Initial suggestions of interest from (obviously) Tottenham appear to have disappeared, but others have suggested that a German club are also interested in the services of the player.

If the player does decide to join Liverpool Football Club then supporters will be hoping he fares better than the last of his countrymen to play for the reds - Andriy Voronin.

Sky sources understand that Chelsea are set to become the biggest spenders in the transfer window so far, with St Etienne centre-back Kurt Zouma poised to sign for the Stamford Bridge club, although the talented teenager will be loaned back to the Ligue 1 side for the remainder of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Tim Sherwood has reacted to the 5-1 mauling against Manchester City by deciding to recall midfielder Jake Livermore from his loan spell at Hull City rather than allow Tigers boss Steve Bruce to sign him on a permanent deal.

Ironically, the two clubs meet in the Premier League on Saturday.

Sherwood is a big fan of 24-year-old Livermore and has invoked a clause that allows him to bring the midfielder back to White Hart Lane just five months after he was sent to Humberside on a season-long loan by his predecessor Andre Villas-Boas.

Interesting one that, he's not really that great a player, certainly not better than the center mids they already have.

Zouma to Chelsea is interesting. He's "the next big thing" so will be good to see how he develops. Only 19 but talked about in a similar way to Sakho.

Must admit, I'm surprised Chelsea haven't strengthened their defence with proven quality this window. They have an ageing LB, an ageing CB in Terry who has lost what little pace he did have, and another in Cahill who is not good enough for a title challenging team. Good back up but not a 1st team regular.

  19. I expected Chelsea to splash the cash on a top striker but it doesn't look like they will now. Expected Arsenal to sign someone too. Maybe there isn't anyone suitable available?

Manchester City took their place at the top of the Premier League last night and show no sign of giving their lead up easily.

The 5-1 hammering of Spurs was another real signal of intent from Manuel Pellegrini's men and opposing boss Tim Sherwood admitted the visitors were from another planet.

They are yet to make any movement this month but could leave it late and here's our round-up of all the City transfer news from today's papers.
Thursday's Manchester City transfer stories from other newspapers and websites

According to Talksport, City are preparing to table a sensational £38million bid for FC Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala.

The highly-rated Frenchman has been linked with a switch to the Etihad over the course of the month, with Chelsea and Manchester United also remaining interested.

But it now appears Manuel Pellegrini's men have moved ahead of their rivals and are believed to be willing to match the club record fee they paid to land Sergio Aguero in 2011.

Their major stumbling block will be Porto's reluctance to sell the 22-year-old and they are planning showdown talks with his representatives in the next 24 hours.

Club president Pinto da Costa is keen to keep hold of Mangala until the summer at least but it is though that he would relish the opportunity to move to the Etihad.

And should he complete the switch, the defender could be joined in Manchester by current club mate Fernando, according to Sports Direct News.

The 26-year-old - who is nicknamed 'The Octopus' - is a reported target for rivals Manchester United - as well as Liverpool - with the Red Devils weighing up a £7million bid.

However, it now appears City will pin him down to a pre-contract agreement, before officially signing him at the end of the season.

Porto want teenager Marcos Lopes on loan as part of the package and the Citizens' boss would be willing to let him depart temporarily.

Meanwhile, Bild are reporting that Borussia Dortmund are keen to sign City striker Edin Dzeko in the next two days, ahead of former club Wolfsburg.

Jurgen Klopp has identified the 27-year-old as the man who he wants to replace Robert Lewandowski, when he moves to Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

His contract at the Etihad expires in 2015 and is thought to be willing to take a pay-cut to move to the Westfalenstadion but a January deal appears unlikely.

Sergio Aguero's injury - which he suffered at White Hart Lane last night - is expected to rule him out for a few weeks at least and Pellegrini doesn't want to lose Dzeko at such a crucial time of the season.

Elsewhere, City are in talks with Celta Vigo to sign Spanish starlet Santi Mina, according to Goal.com.

The 18-year-old has played 16 times in La Liga this season and scored his first senior goal against Atheltic Bilbao back in September.

His parents would prefer him to stay in Spain for another couple of years but Manuel Pellegrini is keen to tie up the deal as soon as possible.

Should a bid be made, it is understood to be a similar package to the one they paid to lure Nigeria Under-17 striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
