"Former Ukraine and Arsenal full-back Oleg Luzhny says that Liverpool would be making a big mistake buying Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk Yevhen Konoplyanka in the January transfer window, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The Merseyside giants are reportedly on the verge of finalising a £16m move for the winger, with the club’s managing director Ian Ayre currently in the Ukraine negotiating a deal for the 24-year-old.
However, according to Luzhny, his compatriot’s style of play is completely unsuited to the fast-paced nature of the English Premier League.
“I don’t think the English league is right for him,” said Luzhny.
“Konoplyanka’s style of play is better suited to Italy or Spain. The game in England is totally different – it’s about power. You have to run back and forth, back and forth. You run at speed up and down, and it’s like that for 90 minutes.
“I saw how he played in the [World Cup qualification playoff] second leg against France, when Ukraine lost 3-0, and he was like a headless chicken.
“It is a completely different level. When you play in the Ukraine, you can afford not to run.
“In the match against France, it was evident that Konoplyanka barely runs at all. Konoplyanka is a good player, but he is suited to Spain or Italy, not England.”

He's saying Kono doesn't have great stamina, Arshavin like.

The game in England is also different to when Luzhny attempted to play for Arsenal. Its no longer all about power hence there being so many smaller players in the league nowadays.

He may be making a good point about stamina though

Sky Sport headline: Transfer news: Lucas Leiva would be happy if Liverpool sign Nigel de Jong

Was hoping he knew something we didn't but sounds like some brazilian press asked him about it. Shame I'd be very happy if this was a thing.

One of those where he can't say anything isn't it? If Lucas says no and we sign him; awkward!

Coutinho lacked it at first but seems to be getting better with it.

I don't know anything about the plank so was just responding to the article <ok>

Someone put an quote from another article with a current Ukrainian press or player, can't remember, saying Kono is better suited for the prem than Yarmolenko and probably will be better.

A lot of Ukrainian media have come out saying he's a good fit for the prem, and that he has a higher work rate than Yarmolenko who can be a bit too relaxed (aka lazy)

Of course he would have to adjust his game to a degree, but from what I've seen of him his style
is all about running with power and pace.

Looks like Hernanes is going to Inter. Wuld have loved him here. Clever player.

I don't that people keep referring to Arshavin when talking about the plank
