Johnson will have been sent off for repeatedly pushing Remy - Many other players should have been booked too. Krul got involved as did (I think) Tiote and a Norwich player who I couldn't pick out from where I was. Fists were a-flying.
 
I suspect both side will get an FA fine for failing to control their players.

Yeah, I actually think Newcastle players got away with it. They were pretty appalling in their reaction.
 
As far as i know all he said was that Remy probably did enough to get sent off and Johnson should be embarressed (sic) by his reaction.

Nothing more than the truth in my eyes.

He even admits there was enough to send the players off, then says it was entirely Johnson's fault?!? He says Johnson should be embarrassed, but I don't see much contrition from Pardew:

The bottom line is we were all embarrassed by Johnson's conduct, but Remy entirely merited the sending off. Johnson drew attention to it and got himself sent off, but we will probably appeal and quite possibly get it overturned because Johnson didn't actually do anything wrong, whereas Remy actually went for the headbutt. If the referee saw the incident clearly and Johnson hadn't reeled away, Remy still would have been sent off. End of. Pardew's comments are, at best, myopic and, more probably, a cynical pandering to his own fans in order to distort fact and fudge how his player broke the rules.

Not being funny Rob but thats entirely what i said?????????????????????

If you as supporters are embarrassed then surely you feel that Johnson should be embarrassed by his actions, and I/pardew both said that remy didn't help himself and could understand the decision?

I reckon that if Johnson hadn't reeled away it would have been a couple of yellows and told not to be so silly because it was hardly what you call a headbutt, more a facing up to each other. but once Johnson done his darcy bushall twirl the ref had no option but to send Remy off and Johnson off for his agressive reaction at the start of the melee.

Fair enough, reading it back you did essentially say that <ok>. My objection was to Pardew suggesting it was all Johnson's fault right after saying it was Remy's fault, which is simply contradiction to cynically appease his own fans and the fact that there was a significant amount of hypocrisy given his touchline behaviour.


As for the red card for Remy - no, we all know that going in with your head, no matter how soft, is a red card offence. So the referee got it spot on - hence Newcastle won't be appealing.

The only way I can see Johnson's actions meriting a red card by the letter of the law is if the ref was to give two yellows - one for the bad tackle on Remy and one for the fake/push (I believe the push was referring to afterwards by Johnson on one of the other Newcastle players, not before Remy headbutted him, because it was Remy that pushed Johnson before that). But the ref didn't, so I can't see why it was a straight red, which is why we will probably appeal and may well get Johnson off. Which is pretty much what Hughton said.
 
remy and johnson should have received yellows and had their heads banged together (properly, none of this crappy rutting bollocks). they should both feel very embarrassed by it all. both as bad as each other as far as i can make out.

i notice pardew didn't see any of ben arfa's four dives though...

Oh yeah, that was my major gripe with this match and especially the reporting of it. HBA was terrible - there were even reports suggesting when he went down in the penalty area that should have been given!?! Apart from Bennett not touching him, he fell over a good four paces afterwards.
 
I suppose the thing that sums this incident up, for me is this:

Why do people feel Remy should have been yellow-carded? Does everyone think the rules need changing to accept that this wasn't really a red-card-worthy incident, even though the rules say it was?
 
Remy was red-carded for the head-butt, which is a sending off offence whether he makes contact or not. I may be wrong, but I believe Johnson was sent off after the ref checked with the linesman who said Johnson raised his leg against Remy in the initial skirmish. I think both red cards will stand.

To be a little fairer to HBA, the one where he went down under Bennett looked like a stonewall penalty to me at first glance, but HBA never appealed for it.

Spot on re Remy.

Hughton was told by the officials that Johnson was sent off for a push - it was unclear whether this push was on Remy or after (not sure he actually pushed Remy - pretty sure it was Remy that pushed him). The high leg was at worst a yellow card, so I could see the officials justifying two yellows for Johnson's behaviour, but not a straight red. Adding Johnson's earlier fouling, he probably merited two yellows overall.

This is why it's no surprise to me that we are appealing the red card, while Newcastle are not. Plus I imagine we are happy to take the extra game ban for Johnson if it's deemed frivolous...

I think the ban could be reduced to a one match ban, which is probably fair, but I'm not sure whether the panel can do that - I think they might have to rescind the red card completely or uphold it, in which case as an example they'll probably uphold it (otherwise there'll be uproar in the North East, which they prefer to pander to than little old Norwich).

Yeah, that's true, it did at first. But he definitely dived and I am pretty positive he, or possibly other Newcastle players, appealed as a result
