Interesting stat that one red. I suppose most GN winners get such a hike in their handicap mark (to which they didn't even run in the National due to the "compressed handicap") and subsequently no let up from the handicapper, whilst not being good enough for graded races.
Oddy, im sure that a few of them have had a couple of turn outs to show off the GN winner but a few of them, Hedgehunter is definitely one of them, ran a fair few more races after their victory but didnt make a return to the winners enclosure... ps - Off the top of my head I think Hedgehunter went about 10-12 races before retiring with no further victory to his name...
Red, Long Run has in the past broken so many stats and trends I’m sure he could break another should he oblige in the GN. And don’t forget the huge plus he’d have that none of the other 10 did...his path will be plotted by the best in the business, Mr Henderson. Nass, I’m sure the younger of the Mr Waley-Cohen’s will be around for a while longer yet to annoy you! He won’t be taking it easy in the old dentists chair, just yet.

Note to Uncle C: Basically I do not include Polytrack and Fibresand in this question, but when you're doing your 'timings' in any racing on the turf, do you take into consideration the state of the ground? A good time on soft or heavy going really needs careful investigation. The only person I ever knew who really could give a definitive speed figure with the going, distance, and handicap weight being fully considered beforehand, was the late Ken Hussey (passed away 2003). He was horseracing's last great Time Lord, without doubt. There never was, and never will be, anyone who will ever come close to him in this respect.

How are you Mr Swan with respect to the late great Mr Hussey , Time spent is money made , hurdling and chasing hold to many unforseen hazzards but to answer your valid question I could tell you the average furlong time to distance on different ground conditions without scratching my head the calculations have been processed that many times , however all run differently in styles and some plod big distances but get places . So there are as you well know yourself many attributes to a race , I try to judge every horse, jockey style , times/dist/conditions, race value weight etc but to do this right in a 7 runner race takes at least 1 hour without veiwing previous races and odds. BRING BACK THE FLAT (for some CRACKER STYLE). I only have one problem I have 2 businesses and not enough time hope I have answered your question enough. Regards U C ps any new good books about swan

Uncle C: Well, you're certainly doing your homework regarding times, that's good work! I do think times on the Flat, sectional or otherwise, mean a lot more on decent ground, rather than soft or heavy ground? P.S. No new books! Did you buy any of those?
Sectionals? Oh, its the goal line technology of racing. All a big fuss but about as useful as a chocolate fireguard. I really don't understand the fascination with times.
That bumpers for jumpers card on Friday has attracted 260 entrants for its 6 heats! Old Hendo Henderson is responsible for 21 of these and they include such luminaries as French Opera and Shakalakaboomboom who could have his first run since the 2012 Grand National. Mr Nicholls heavily represented as well include Southfield Theatre a horse I really like.
Funny you should mention that, this ain't no tip but had a nutty dabble on Jungle in the 2:55 at Cagnes-Sur-Mer. It is the mother of all open-looking races, but what the heck!
Wow, they can't enter horses for soft ground races over obstacles, but boy do these NH trainers love entering them for flat races on the sand. Mr Henderson perhaps should give in the game and aim to become the best trainer of sand horses in the UK. Relocate to Southwell too, he would love that.

Yep, I was also moved to back Tetlami for the Supreme 2 years ago based on the fabulous turn of foot he showed in a jumpers bumper. He went OK to the foot of the hill before getting badly outpaced, conclusion being he beat trees in that bumper.
