I don't think Doncaster suddenly became able to afford 100% of Billy's wages. Something changed even if it's only the level of contribution/sacrifice we demand. Dickson had to (if he didn't want to be financially irresponsible) wait out his contract, didn't he?
arguable. if cortese hadn't left we would assume so. cortese gone and it makes it just as likely that draconian policies may have been lifted as they have been with certain former players.
Demanding the full wages be paid never made much financial sense to me. If someone wants to pay 5% or 10% of the wages then fair enough, turn the deal down but if they offer a decent chunk (say 75%) then taking it makes more sense to me than turning it down. By demanding the other club pay the player's full wages you just end up paying those full wages for longer yourself.
Was a massive step from Eastleigh to Saints, even in L1. He will drop back down but will probably be better off than if he never had come here.
This has never happened. We demanded full wages from Reading and they said no, and then he went on loan there anyway. Either we cracked or they did. Everybody understands that if you can't get 100% you should take what you can get.
agree that made little sense. asking for the current going rate or the figure the player would have been on without promotion would have made more sense, but apparently cortese was on one of his crusades, many of which simply had to be reversed.
I don't mean that the player never goes on loan, I mean the deal is delayed and you pay the player's full wages in the interim, which offsets the "gain" when the deal finally goes through. Sharp is a perfect example of when it DID happen. Reading were interested for a lot of last summer from what I remember. Our demand that all Sharp's wages were paid by them delayed a deal and we had to pay his wages for the period between the initial offer and the deal finally being done, which - if they made a loan offer at the end of July - could have been as long as 2 months.
He had very broad shoulders, did Aaron Martin. That's how I will remember him. Fondly. I like big shoulders.
He's joined Birmingham. Bit surprised he got a Championship job but best of luck to him and all that.
First time the famed three dots has actually happened to me, I'd point to everyone (Mainly Fran!) that when it happens if you click 'Reply With Quote' and then when the message box opens you click 'Go Advanced', it will open a page showing the image, you don't actually have to post quoting the image.
Happened to me once earlier in the week. If you edit it the picture will come back. At least it did for me.
