Should FSG invest in Liverpool more heavily or sell them?

Whereas a Sheik buyout; or a Russian mobster buyout might be nice due to rapid investment from influx of oil, drug, or Prostitute money flowing in: I feel a sale is more likely to another H&G rather than a Roman Abrahamovich.

I'd rather the devil I know. FSG are stable and fair. They're no Russian criminal enterprise or Arabian Oil billionaires... but they're stable and have good business sense.

Found this article from November last year, more or less backs up mito on the net spend point.

http://hereisthecity.com/en-gb/2013...-fsg-holding-back-miracle-worker-rodgers-hol/

I just want to point out that while norwich appear with more net spend we have to be realistic and knock off the once off summer for some clubs.

chelsea lobbed out 60mil, city another 86mi.

we can't do it, just cna't... not unless someone who's nuts and has 20bil comes in and is willing to put 5% of his cash at risk to play.

I suggest anyone thinking we are cheap to go look at tottenham's net spend over that last 4 years.

If 20-25mil is our lot until revenues increase. well thats our lot. it aint half bad if the right decisions are made... NOT APSAS!!!

get 20 warm bodies then that 20mil can be 1 or 2 players. thats the reality if we buy one guy this window for 20mil great. if we spend on 2 its suddenly why you see use trying it on for salah..

Here is Thing from the squad ringing up JH to ask him to strengthen the team:-

catch 22.

we have a thing squad, we need players we all agree, but is there value there in this window?

not making excuses for the owners as this is doing my head in as well, but maybe they could be banking on us getting top 4 with what we have, then summer, we will have a huge budget to get the quality required in.

is a huge gamble with maybe losing luis if we dont make top 4, but if we cant get the players in now just have to hope the squad is good enough to get us top 4, and lets be honest if it wasn't for injuries it would be anyway, which is why i personally want out asap out the ****ing cup! (personnel opinion!)

bit odd why we are being linked to attacking players though and not much talk of dm, as we could if we got cl football get better in then anyway, so long term waste of money!

Not financially it isn't. Make top four, we get more money to spend. Don't make the top four and we haven't committed to more than we can afford.

Tony Barrett made a great comment earlier:

"If Liverpool fail to strengthen the team in January, then they can't blame Suarez for wanting to leave for CL football in the summer."

If we sold him the new contract on the basis that in the next few window's we'll invest in some "talent" and don't deliver, then I wouldn't blame him...

suppose that's a fair argument from the financial side of things, but i was talking more losing a player of luis quality, we will never replace that type of player, and the only players at the moment near his level are cl club players and ones who are normally challenging on all fronts to win things.

I think the question isn't whether FSG will sell us in the next 1-3 years. They won't, even if a Tan or an Al-Kalafi came knocking with a very generous offer. FSG see great unfulfilled long-term potential in us, plus they are into the flagship business - investing in old reputable and beloved institutions like the Red sox and Boston Globe.

The question is - will FSG sell the club in the next 4-6? If in a few years they see it nigh on impossible to break the top 4 and compete with Abramovich, City's sheikhs and to a fairer extent ManU and Arsenal, then they might sell. The likelihood of this scenario begins with us failing to make top 4 this year exploiting United's disarray, and losing Suarez.

If I were JH I'd exploit United's sickness this year, grab the opportunity and invest today. Next year United could come back much stronger, whilst hope to dislodge Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal from the top 4 is not very realistic.

We must invest on making top 4 this year - it will be harder to do that if Suarez leaves and ManU get back up. The only hope we'd have given we don't make top 4 this year is if: 1) Suarez doesn't/can't leave in the summer 2) ManU continue to screw up. I hope FSG are not counting on these two dim possibilities.

He's right! It's really no good improving our squad by 5% when everyone around is is improving it by 10 or 20%. This window will leave us in no doubt about FSG's attitude towards LFC. Rolling out the right money for right player mantra simply won't wash. Losing Luis this summer will set us back much further than the £80m we'll receive for him.

Firstly we haven't lost him.

Secondly, of those above us only Chelsea have made significant buys.

Thirdly, so United have bought Mata but that doesn't address their crap midfield or rubbish back 4

Rodgers has a better understanding of his midfield and back 4 options than we do. If he feels we can struggle through until our injured players are fir again then it's his head that is on the line! So get a grip.

That's a good point. I thought that maybe Brendan wouldn't want 90% of the absolute garbage we have been linked to and he would rather wait until the summer to get the right payers for the right price instead of spunking money on rubbish players now.

Sure, rubbish < nothing. But why get rubbish? Get smb decent. Smb decent > people who haven't played the holding role ever (Gerrard, Allen, Hendo, Agger, Kolo, Sakho).

Smth tells me that he might use Agger or Sakho in the midfield, ala Jones and Luiz.

We don't sign anyone there's no top 4. Doesn't take a genius does it??

Mata is one big statement of intent.....you think that's nothing?? haha....you seriously think our midfield and defence is better?....seriously, get a grip!

On a par. Both teams at the moment saved by their attacking force. <ok>

True but not worse than yours. <whistle> United's are being addressed <ok>

Not really, Mata is at most a no10 or a wide player. Still not fixing the CM yet just like us.

EDIT: Mata is a quality player and will help United but it doesn't fully address the problem, just gives you one hell of an attacking trio.
