Long's got 3 goals so far this season, in 1038 minutes. Fryatt has 3 for us in 81 league minutes and a few cup games, as well as goals in his loan spell. I see Long and Sagbo been the runner/hold up player and Jelavic and Fryatt being the finishers in this side, with Aluko there to offer something different.
Window's not closed yet. Rumour is someone is going to bid £8m for Matty. Oh, wait... no they're not. Edit to add: Actually, based on Bob's valuation of Long, they're going to bid £4m for Matty. Oh, wait... no they're not.
Fryatt has got us into the 5th round but he'll have to play third fiddle in the PL. I'd keep him however
he did do a job for us, however he also missed a lot of sitters... how many times did the ball come to him and he completely ****ed it up infront of goal? He spent the majority of last season injured, how many players return from injury and play at the same standard as they do when they pick up the injury? People saying that he should start? really? SB brought him on in the Norwich game, and the comments that were made at that time just show how fickle a lot of you are! I just don't rate Fryatt, I never have. that's MY personal opinion. no opinion is right, adversely, no opinion is wrong.
We all know Matty is a good finisher he isnt blessed with pace doesn't win enough headers but is a good footballer, i think to see him play regularly against premier league defences is the only true way to judge him. Shane Long is very quick a good header will may be get you ten goals a season but will create a lot of space for others. I think one problem for City at the moment is we don't break away fast enough but hopefully with Brady Aluko and Long in the team it will make the difference one thing you cannot give a footballer is pace and for me its something we have been lacking recently.
I think that looked like a mean, lean hungry Fryatt. I haven't been as impressed with him since his debut when he came on as a sub away at Pompey and looked a bit like Keith Edwards in his pomp, but a harder worker. Isn't his contract up at the end of the season? So if we want to keep him we need to offer him a new one. I'd offer him another couple of years at slightly increased pay. If Long or Jelavic get injured we'd need him. Anyway today he was top drawer. Showed Graham up completely.
When Fryatt scored 16 goals for in the Championship, he was often playing as a lone striker or out on the left. The service provision was pretty poor. Having said that, his tally looked better as he scored 2 or 3 in pretty much the last match. It's hard to say from that season how effective he could be with our current team. He hasn't really played for us fully fit since, barring the match he got injured last season and in recent weeks. Potentially, he could be the answer to our problems, but on the other hand, he may not be up to our level. No-one really knows. I know one thing though. If he was fit and had played as many times as Graham, I think he'd have scored 5 or 6, possibly more. He's undoubtedly a better finisher.
Matty Fryatt... We have a striker who scored goals for us....got injured....went out on loan and scored goals...came back and scored goals... What's not to like ? Let's see how Jelly and Long do before we dismiss Fryatt eh ? Even if they do set the world on fire, do we have a better player on the bench ?
I don't know. Why don't you tell us, exactly? We provided stats to refute your daft comments about the goals he did score; now that you've changed the subject to that of his missed sitter rate, how about you provide some evidence to back this up? Really? First choice, in PL games? Who? Link? That's pretty clear to see. That's not so clear, in this instance.
Matty would be great back up for us. His finishing today was what needed and he would be a useful player to bring on for the last 20 mins. He hasn't always fired on all cylinders but he's done a job when asked to.
I think we might be about to see the best of him, now that he's got some genuinely creative players to work with.
I still think that if we get a decent offer from a Championship club, he'll be gone, unless we've managed to get an alternative loan move for Graham. With his contract up in the summer and no guarantee that he can perform at PL level, I think we'd take any kind of reasonable offer for him. Even if both he and Graham left, we'd still have three out and out strikers as well as Aluko, Brady, Boyd and Koren who can all play a secondary striker role. I think he deserves a chance to try and prove he can hack it at PL level but if he gets it or not will probably depend upon whether someone like Forest offer a deal that makes sense to the club and him.
To be fair, that's not difficult, put a City shirt on him and my dog would look more like scoring than DG
I was impressed with his pace today. The 70 yard run to get in position for the first goal when he took the ball off Graham's toes he was really moving. I noticed after he scored and the other players were all over him congratulating him it looked like Graham didn't join in. Anyone else see that? Don't think Graham will be around much longer.
