Seb Larsson could be in line for a sensational return to Arsenal having let his contract run down at St Andrews.
The Swedish international is one of relegated-Birmingham's most valuable assets but has left the club on a free transfer, sparking a bidding war between several of the Premier League's top clubs.
The midfielder was on Arsenal's books from 2001-2007 and made a handful of appearances, most of which in the League Cup. And according to the player, he could be set to move back to the Emirates Stadium.
'They have shown some interest,' he told Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. 'If it flows it can be anything in the end. The next few days will tell.
'I know there is some kind of interest but I cannot currently say whether something can be done or not. At the moment I do not know how it is going. I know who said that they have shown an interest but the next few days will tell.'
Larsson still has friends at the club he left as a 22-year-old, most notably Gael Clichy, himself the subjected of much transfer speculation.
Clichy has been linked with a switch to Premier League rivals Liverpool, one of those who tracking Larsson's situation, as are Sunderland, Blackburn and Newcastle.
The Swede, 26, said: 'I'm talking to a couple of the Arsenal players still. In particular, Clichy.
'Of course I have also talked to my advisor. For every day that passes, I will get closer to a decision but it is also no stress to me. The most important thing is to get to a place that is a good next step in my career. It is the goal. It may take a week or a few weeks before it is finished.
'I do not have full control of the situation and would rather not go into exactly what clubs the case of the moment. But I have not learned so much about Liverpool. What I can say.'
