While I have never bought into this idea that Man U got special treatment I was surprised at this website I have linked. I was trying to prove that Man U were in the same position as everyone else and it was a matter of perspective but this was certainly a shocker.

Thanks for posting the link (I've updated the stats to include Steven Gerrard's penalty this weekend).

Generally speaking, the better teams will always be awarded more penalties simply because they spend more time in the opposition's penalty area.

But I think in the case of United, they used to be awarded far more than their fair share, especially at Old Trafford.

the villa ref was awful.. he deliberately ignored suarez all first half including a blatant elbow to the face.

next thing he comes out and gives the classic suarez free... where he dives across his opponents path cuts off the ball and takes contact. i was amazed at the turn around. suzrez could have scored that free had it gone on target.

Pen was stonewall but it was suarez playing for it, he even slowed down to ensure the stupid keeper clattered him. the ref must have been raging cos he'd no option...Guzan never even got an f'n card but spent the rest of the came time wasting with the ref berating him for it... typcial.

There was a massive bias towards Man Utd, especially at Old Trafford, as the officials knew how he could help them and what he'd do to them if they made a poor decision against Utd and they didn't win.
Just look at the comments from Mark "Close personal friend of Alex Ferguson" Halsey and Graham Poll.

Absolutely and not just headlines...but also repercussions for their whole careers....those referees that didn't give Fergie what he wanted soon drifted down the leagues into obscurity. It was a closed shop for two decades so enjoy the level playing field while it lasts....because it probably won't last for long

Trying as hard as possible not to be biased and looking across the games I have seen on tv from other Premiership matches, I truly believe that the standard of refereeing has hit an all time low. Additionally United are now being treated by referees in exactly the same way as the other side in the league - they are not being picked-on they are just not being given the allowances they have formerly enjoyed.

The new reality for United has many facets. The comments that Redmen have been making about the state of United's side for a long time now are now being justified. The consequences of United's debt have not been publically addressed by their owners. Any transfer action in this window will probably be viewed as desperation rather than development. This review of treatment by referees is only one more facet.

I was amazed last night to hear Manc fans on Radio 5 still demanding that they will make top 4 (deffo according to them)! Now I truly believe that we can hand the deluded crown over to them.

I find it amusing that the Chelsea fans are complaining that Rafael should have been sent off. Clearly, he should have been but at least it was in the dying minutes rather than at the start of the game, aka Eto'o

hey.. thats two now i've seen him get away with that should have been reds in the month of january.

sunderland game had one too.

For me vidic was red due to scissors action. if he'd bothered to keep his other leg tucked he'd have got yellow. i think he meant it.

Rafael will eb sent off next time.. ref bottled that.

Cahill said last night that he knew what was coming and rode it. He wasn't hurt and the game ended after the re-start. OK so we can all shout about the letter of the law but if I'd been the Ref I would have handled it in the same way.

I agree the Eto'o incident was totally different

reffing is very poor.. its been done on political lines to avoid controversy.

Refs in short are looking after themselves not applying the rules.

1. if any player flops in their own half... free. no matter how of if there's contact.

2. same flop in opponent's half.. no free, even risk of yellow in case of those with form.. take note suarez.

3. yellows and reds early in games are very hard to get. I've seen countless occasions now of guys basically being let of with murder in standard games in the first 2 mins hacking lad down. refs don't want a sending off decision later. they wave off the foul.

4. pens need to be stonewall cos you get accused of bias or being fooled. suarez's one was but he did look for it so queue controversy.

5. don't book anyone til the second half if at all possible... play the oh its my first ref rubbish. let players hack others down.

6. the minute the second half is on... wave yellows to show you are in control. a guy might bump into another guy.. yellow. never did another offense.. guy next to him has hacked 3 lads down in the first... but he gets his yellow cos the refs "in control"

7. don't book anyone for time wasting... especially not a keeper.

8. allow mouthing off all you want until second half.

9. never get into a situation to get 2 yellows given out.

its is on its face simply ridiculous at this stage to watch a game where full backs are flopping over constantly getting frees while at the other end defenders are hacking players down and using elbows etc.

As for the tackle then I have to say that I truly believe you're all soft! In my day you could tackle with 2 feet, you could jump into a tackle - legally. All we hear today is that "he could have injured him seriously" - seriously it didn't happen then and it wouldn't happen now. The whole advantage in tackling today has been given to the player in control of the ball. Almost any form of physicality appears now to be viewed as a foul it just stupid. Football is a contact game and contact should be allowed.

All due respect Dave, it doesn't really matter what happened in your day (or even mine), its about modern day rules and you simply can't "tackle" like that. Nor do I believe the timing of a incident should alter the decision. First minute or last, if its a red card offence then a red card should be issued.

Fair point on the light bulb but Rafael's tackle was more liking to only having three functioning wheel on your car. And no, I don't drive a Robin Reliant

I agree common sense should be part of the game but there are still ways and means of tackling that fit within modern rules. Rafael's attempted tackle was a shocking attempt at hurting Cahill IMO

Not sure that's a fair assessment. He wouldn't have had that level of thought process in that short a space of time, plus he'd already sent Vidic off too.
