I dont understand why we are comparing the two? I dont think Hughes was anybodys first choice but if we take a step back and think about it logically there was no alternative. The budget had been raped and there was no more money or flexibility in the wage bill after TP had gleefully gone on a spending spree - which is why he was asked to leave. He even admitted it himself when he was interviewed and said that "the club" wanted to go in a different direction and if he didnt have complete control of the transfers and accademy (I.E Director of Football) he wouldnt want to continue. Hughes was one of the very few that would have wanted the job and be prepared to work under the financial constraints of the club. Additionally we had an ageing poor performing squad which was in relegation form.
HUGHES: Played 22: Won 5: Drawn 7: Lost 10: 22 Points: 13th Position
PULIS: Played 22: Won 4: Drawn 7: Lost 11: 19 Points: 17th Position
So in answer to your statement Pedar, Yes it would have been likely that Pulis would have taken us down, although no one wished it.
Those are simple black and white facts, non negotiable fact. However if we would like to throw in a couple of shades of grey how about the fact that Begovic and Huth have been out - even Pulis said that Begovic was worth 10 points over a season and there were games on the run in last season that he single handedly kept us in it and probably from being relegated! In addition, we have had some awful decissions that have cost between 3 & 5 points: Everton, Liverpool and Newcastle. The fact is that I would rather be where we are with Hughes than where CP are with Pulis. Its a personal opinion and I respect everyone elses - even if they are not willing to support Hughes......but why compare to TP?
In addition, although Pulis likes to claim he won his first game in charge - he didnt. He was appointed on the morning of 23/11 and had no input into the first game. His results are respectable since considering the situation: Won 4, Drawn 1, Lost 5, 13 Points & 7 Goals scored and fair play to him. He does what he does best, will it keep them up? I doubt it but good luck to him.
