QPR midfielder Joey Barton, 31, caused a storm on Twitter by cheekily suggesting he was a certainty to win the Ballon d'Or.

Hm. I'm not sure that Joey Barton suggesting he's in for the Ballon d'Or is capable of either causing a storm or being cheeky, since it's so obviously a piss-take. But this got me thinking as to what can actually be counted as "cheeky" in football.

Our making a bid for Mata or Rooney would, almost certainly, be cheeky, whereas making a move for, say, Luke Shaw almost certainly would not.

What are the cheekiest things you've seen in football, in recent times?

Vertonghen's tackle earlier in the season was pretty cheeky

In recent times, Fergie hiring the ref to play as his 12th man was fairly cheeky. Appointing Moyes to balls things up for them wasn't quite so cheeky.

Actually, being cheeky is quite a difficult thing to pull off successfully.

Perez tapping up Bale was a little cheeky. Having said that I'd class driving into his car in a Madrid underpass as pretty cheeky too. Perhaps we should try it.

I had Barton as a certainty for the Balloon d'Or.

As Nietzsche said: "The demand to be loved is the greatest of all arrogant presumptions."

Just before he said: "There's no tw*t like that cocky, chirpy little Scouse footballing tw*t."

Kyle Naughton for masquerading as a Premier League fullback...thats quite cheeky, as is Dozy Altidor as PL striker. :)

This line could go on indefinetly Hiag, W.Ham are cheeky so and so's pretending to be a Premier League club some might say!

Yeah, but the spammers don't do a very good impersonation. I mean who'd fall for that one?....

Or AVB, who's been masquerading as a world class football manager for a few years now!...

"FC Borne, a non-league French side bid for Messi"

Triggered his 250m odd Euro release clause did they ?? :D

This is most certainly cheeky...

...whereas this is putting a bunch of no-hopers out of their misery...

Walcott's 2-0 gesture was cheeky.

Adebayor's knee slide in front of goon fans was more than cheeky (and much funnier)

A point of order...

Some of these things certainly sound strange slightly ridiculous, even - but can they genuinely be classed as cheeky?

For example, Whinger saying that Arsenal can win the league is plainly ridiculous, but I wouldn't say it was cheeky.

I was watching the Fulham v Norwich and we were introduced to substitute Moussa Dembele.Did I hear that right or was some one being cheeky?
