True - however I can't help thinking back to what my now-deceased mum said during discussions with the family on how best to have her looked after when she became unable to live by herself. One option put forward was to have an either live-in or visiting carer - mum was adamant that that would only be acceptable if the carer wasn't "a blackie". She was in her late 80s, had fixed views that she wouldn't change (wouldn't or couldn't explain them either, and had never voiced them previously), so we dropped that idea for fear of both upsetting her and upsetting the Employment Law nazis.... She ended up in a rather expensive nursing home - where she did have a disturbing encounter with a coloured nurse, ringing me at 2:00am screaming that there was 'a blackie had come in to her room to get her'. Both nurse and nursing home were very understanding & simply re-arranged rosters so that it didn't happen again
Lefty reason? I suspect there are as many if not more righty reasons for not employing someone....hair too long, not a Freemason, doesn't play golf etc. Or perhaps political perspective isn't often the reason at all.
I agree with that entirely Theo. My place (a nameless givernemnet Department) is a bit odd in that respect - targets on females and Black and ethnic minorities in senior positions but then you look at the fast track employees they bring in and the male intake is all youngish ex public school boys almost all of whom sound like refugees from Brideshead! The women always seem to have much more impressive CVs and i've never met someone in that specific category who was black. It should be said that some of the other departments are not as bad in that respect

Morning all Yet more rain after a rare day of sunshine yesterday. Still it means 'The Morning Gift' is progressing more quickly...76.000 words now.
Loosely connected to yesterday's discussion - was reading this earlier http://www.independent.co.uk/news/s...ource=indynewsletter&utm_medium=email15012014 - tends to suggest that legislation against 'discriminatory practices' doesn't always work as people simply ignore it....
Lefty reason was perhaps a wrong choice of word. As some of us have pointed out, despite the legislation, there is a lot of discrimination that goes on that is not legislated against and often cannot be proven although we all know it goes on. I am not a Mason, play golf of squash and don't want to network etc and I am sure that has affected my job opportunities, just don't like playing these games. Still I managed to do ok.
What an absolute d*ckhead!! http://uk.news.yahoo.com/killer-shark-leaves-budgie-cage-diver-red-faced-035212866.html#LQZhufR "..he knew the shark was in the water when he jumped in, but he had not expected the beast to "come at" him"
I spotted this and thought what a waste of talent with the style of football he was being asked to play in. http://au.eurosport.com/football/chalobah-leaves-forest_sto4090642/story.shtml I watched a Forest game when he started the game, but was subbed. During the first half when he was on the pitch he spent most of it watching the ball flying over his head. A good example I think of how a very good player can look poor when in a team not using him in the right way. Yes he had his off days, but was very young. I wonder if he was still with us would we have had such a poor run leading to the departure of GFZ?
