Have you come across the works of Michel Foucault in your studies? I always found his works on crime and punishment very interesting, and was for me a real eye opener on the way the disciplinary system has evolved in many western societies.

One aspect of Foucault's theories is basically how what is regarded as being right or wrong, or lawful or unlawful is dictated largely by the spoken language of that given time, and is therefore changeable. A perfect example being language directed towards, say for arguments sake, blacks or homosexuals which is now criminalised as being racist or homophobic, was twenty or so years ago far more widely accepted in everyday conversation.

I hope that helps..<ok>

What makes it even funnier is that it is a PUBLIC FORUM.

In my opinion anyone making racist or ***** comments should be banned.

Grow up.

To be honest mate, I would never fall out with someone over remarks made on an internet forum. Disagree and fight our corners? Too right we should...Fallout over this...Not for me like..:emoticon-0150-hands

True, and we've already stated anyone willing to contribute is more than welcome, if your here to take the piss or have a reputation as a prick, then you'll get ****e even if you're here 'in peace' or not and our resident racist poster has been ****ed off (BC) so think it shows we don't tolerate any of that stuff here.

What the **** is the point in threads like this man <doh>. Sometimes you wouldn't think that this forum was filled with adults. You'd think it was filled with kids.

We all like football, don't we? So let's grow up and enjoy football instead of starting pointless crap for no reason whatsoever.

In essence the key to Foucault's work was his utilisation of the knowledge-power relationship to illustrate the diverse impact and effects on the perception of crime and the structure of punishment.
