With a confident keeper and a stable CB pairing, IMO we would struggle to find better. Rose has to prove himself over a period of time to be considered first choice. I think Benny has been been consistantly our best defender over a a couple of years now. He does gets caught in possession when moving forward but really because players do not show for the ball. He combines well with Bale and is, by and large, a cool head (some may say too cool.) A good back four is about stability, (BAE was part of our meanest defence in my memory) too many injuries last season and a comedy goalie would have given Paolo Maldini the jitters. I say keep and I dare say Harry will do the same. We should be investing in a striker first and foremost, not worrying about somebody who, for the most part, did a good job.
Gives the ball away? yes he does, show me a player who doesn't! Does he do it alot, no he does not. Weakest link??? over say Gomes for starters! The more statements like this I read, the more apparent its becoming the originator hasn't a clue what he's talking about.
Jose Enrique from Newcastle would cost around £10million. Would he really be any better than BAE. Last someone said unless you are playing A.Cole in that position there isn't anyone in the PL who could do a better job.
I honestly dont see why some on here dont rate BAE... The fact he played every game up until his injury is credit to him and proves he was one of our best and most consistent players throughout last season. And with playing that many games, yes there will be some mistakes. However, I dont think this should distract from the fact he has been very impressive over the past year or so...
http://tribalfootball.com/articles/...u-ekotto-among-best-left-backs-around-1693311 Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp was delighted with the form of fullback Benoit Assou-Ekotto last season. Redknapp is a huge fan of the Cameroon international. "He's one of the best left-backs around," he told the Spurs website. "He's quick, strong, aggressive and has amazing ability. His body strength is unbelievable. You watch when he goes for a 50-50, players bounce off him. "There aren't many better than him, for sure and you certainly wouldn't want to play against him."
Are you seriously leaving this debate forum because someone is debating with you? notsosmartspur just had differing opinions to your own and wanted to say his piece - thats what a debate is. No need to go off in a huff because he didn't blindly agree with what you were saying. Ironic really, considering
The thing about our defense (without Ledley) is that as far as distribution up the field goes it's either knock it long to Peter or give it to BAE. Corluka also plays a part when he's on form however around 70% of the time responsibily tends to be given to BAE to play the out ball. Because he's the most progressive of our defenders he will give the ball away more frequently - that's life. Is that debate enough for your Hopnut you Surfer!
Unbelievable! I just don't understand some people. I'd be very interested if someone could name a better left-back other than Evra and Cole in the Premier League. You lot are talking about getting rid, you should be more worried if his head gets turned by a bigger club. He's been outstanding for us for many years. Yes, he's made the odd mistake but so do the very best. Evra couldn't handle Lennon, does that mean United should sell him? No. He was up there near Modric for the Player of the Season, i'd say he had a better one than Bale for instance, yet he still can't satisfy some people. If we had 11 players as good in their positions as he is, we wouldn't go far wrong. Maybe you lot would like Atouba back????
Whoa! (that's English, for 'stop a horse') There's only one Numnut on this thread advocating the riddance of BAE, the rest of us are all fighting his corner!
Apologies gents! Just read through it again and most of the negative comments have been made by this 'Hopnut' fella. I didn't look at the username as i was so alarmed by the content of the comment. He seems to think Pav is the saviour as well, so he and i will struggle to get on anyway i feel. You have to admit though, putting Hopnut aside, the rest of the comments seem to lean towards lukewarm more than hot. Crazy!
