What a fantastic season the boy is having with Derby, still think if he has his head in the right place and works hard he will do well in the premier league.

Is doing really well now. I always thought he would be the ideal long term option for Hoolahans position just behind the striker. Intelligent player that can pick a pass and score goals. We may regret letting him go.

I always thought he'd be a good player, he was unlucky in our Championship season with all the disruption he had, having been so important in league 1. Norwich progressed just that bit too quickly for him. Glad he's finally found a place to get regular football and he's clearly thriving on that. You never know, maybe we'll see him back at Norwich one day.

15 goals so far and three at least 3 penalties missed, so far this season. He has done very well to get his career back on track, but will he keep it on track this time? I would like to think so, and even be happy to see him 'come home' at some time, if he is up to the standard required.

Cureton is an odd one as he scored bucket load of goals everywhere he played, except for on his return to CR. Must have been down to the poor team we had at the time.

Some players just need to get away from where they grew up and the bad circles of mates/distractions there

Except that doesn't really work with Curo, he was born and grew up in Bristol and scored lots of his goals down there while playing for the Gas. Always a mystery how he didn't score goals for us, especially when you consider he was Championship top scorer with Colchester so it's not as if he was out of his depth in that division. The general feeling is that perhaps he tried too hard, not sure if that's possible myself but something clearly didn't quite click when he put our first team shirt on.

Back to the OP, was Martin a free agent when he signed for Derby, or have we got some kind of future sell-on clause thingy that could work in our favour some day? Pretty sure he was under 24 when we let him go, not sure if that's relevant or not though.

Ha! Reading it back it does sound a bit odd! I know a few people and have drunk in the same pub as him and I am not sure I would get on with him once he has had a few.

So frustrating! As he is one of the most natural finishers I have seen. You tee the ball up for him to strike in or around the box and the keeper will at least be tested. Those goals he scored at the Colchester game away sums him up. If only he could just keep his mouth shut and not go missing in games he would be the full article.

Alex ferguson rated him at one point and was on the verge of making a bid but Chrissy kept getting in trouble in Beccles and it ****ed it all up! Fool!

Agreed - sorry I was meaning C Martin and other young players under c.24 who still have a chance to make a career.

I always thought he was in our youth team and then reserves, and finally gaining 'immortality' for having his hair dyed when we played the binners.
I seem to remember him and Ade Akinbye being referred to as the ' New South Stand' money back in the nineties

Really glad to see him do well, was a pleasure to watch him holt and wes play in league 1 when they got going. Some of the football was real class I used to think, no surprise Lambert rated him so highly some of his finishing was so instinctive. Thats why so many were disappointed it didn't quite work out for him here. Great to see a good coach look after him and get the best out of him. If they go up can see him doing well in the prem with a maturer head on his shoulders.

I honestly think we could have kept him this season and used him in our squad. Though I guess he wanted to move somewhere he could get regular football. Shame because he is looking really good this season.
