Steady there Rob, a few games back Holtby was being praised, nows hes a donkey? thankfully you're not in charge of player transfers as otherwise player movement would be more frequent then wags coming and going from Defoes bedroom door,
My only defence of Holtby today is that he was being played as an attacking midfielder, when what the team actually needed was a defensive midfielder.
I know the lad Holtby is a youngster and we shouldn't be too hard on him blah, blah, blah etc., but he really, really annoys me too Rob. He can't run with the ball at his feet and he plays far too many unnecessary short safe passes, for my liking. I can't believe he's still holding down any sort of position, at all, within a Spurs premiership team. Both him and the other misfit Soldado are two significant flops,. the likes of which I've not seen in a Spurs shirt for a good while... if you were to ask me. I've got a feeling we'll see Harry Kane in place of Soldado, for a few games, before too long.
Can we buy Remy in the transfer window and sell Soldado,at least we would see a striker scoring from open play
I said at the time he was availible we should buy him, although a few people were not sure, including Levy it seems, although we would have spent less signing a player who scores, rather than one who does'nt,and cost more than double!
I wasn't sure he was what we needed, a bit like i'm not also convinced soldado was the right choice, regardless of his form. I was hoping for a "bigger" number 9. - a Benteke/Lukaku type. However, Remy is banging in the goals, and he's clearly now an upgrade on Defoe, something which I also said he wasn't at the time. After a decent spell with QPR too, he's looking like another we missed out on. Humble pie for me!
Remy was at QPR for 6 months and settled in straight away, so this is really his second season. He's looked decent since he came to england to be fair.
Holtby's best role at Schalke was in a similar role to that played by van der Vaart. He's not been given a run there for us and when he's played deeper the system's often been awful. He seemed to link up well with Defoe early on in the season, but since then we've either played one or the other and neither's been picked consistently. Playing him alongside Eriksen in a 4-4-2 is just stupid, though. Awful decision.
Rumours suggest that he's moving up a division in January, though the club still seems to be a mystery.
I've got a good idea - Lets replace a German international with first team and champions league experience with a chap that has played 6 games in the championship and 19 games in league one because said German had a bad game.
He has scored 12 goals a season most of his career. I think he has 16 this calendar year. No reason to suspect he is any good.
Ok. In England he has played 30 league games. Scored 16 goals. He is 26, so the positive view is that after his injury plagued career before, he is now settling as a player in a league that suits his style.
I'm tempted to find all the players who've scored at more than a goal every second game for 30 games. Some of them will be called Shearer or Owen. Most of them will have sunk without chase.
