I guess he's thinking there's no point him playing the last couple, might as well start building for the future now. Shame our next best spinner is Monty, other than that no real decent young spinner coming through.
Sounds to me like he was planning to quit anyway, had this fiasco with Facebook as well as the way the tour is going and thought **** it, I'll go home for Christmas.
Sums up the way the squad has approached the whole tour really. Got to wonder how much the KP return has rocked the boat.
Poor all round if you ask me.. First his performance in the first three tests Second, his stupid rape comment. Third, he couldn't wait to get off a damaged ship instead of helping them save it from sinking altogether.. Lost a lot of respect for the fella. However, positive note being I've always rated Monty a better spin bowler, it's just the fact that Swann was a better batter and fielder than Monty that got him in the side ahead of piss pants panny!
Have to agree. It does seem like he's leaving in our time of need. The tour is now a total farce and quite frankly has put me off cricket, all be it temporarily.
I think what pissed me off most was seeing how happy he looked yesterday. I couldn't help thinking "hold on, you've just been part of one of the biggest shambles in England history and you're grinning like the cheshire cat" I get the feeling a lot of those lads have been allowed to believe their own hype.....much more than we realised
He's staying in Aus for Xmas as his family are out there with him... but I get what you're saying. I don't think he's being selfish. He said in his press conference that if he was being selfish he'd stay and play on so he could experience another boxing day test in front of 90k fans but he's doing it at a time so England can start building for the next test series in the same way Australia used the back end of the Ashes and the one dayers to build towards this one.
Swann has come out a day after his last training session and said there are some players with their heads uo their arses along with other personal criticisms. I cannot believe how he has gone from rat leaving a sinking ship to traitor. How can he criticise them now when the tour hasn't even bloody ended?.) Where is his loyalty to England and his former colleagues? Absolutely shameful. Michael Vaughan is going for gold on Twitter now.
I've lost a whole lot of respect for him now mate and that's such a shame as on form he was the best spinner I've seen for England (certainly the most effective). How dare he criticise others when he's been a major part of the problem this tour. Over the years he's been more than happy to take the plaudits when we've been playing well (as a team) and yet when the ****'s hit the fan he's done a runner. IBWT I just don't agree with him about the "I'm not being selfish" assesment he's lauded on himself. Just the opposite IMO, the fact that he's spouting bullshit trying to make himself look like some kind of hero for ****ting out mid-series makes the whole thing even worse. Why the hell should the players who have let everyone down so far get to walk away and leave the new breed to face the Aussies on fire? It's hardly going to instill confidence in them if they get blown away in their first couple of test matches.
What little respect I had for him is now nearly all gone. Fair enough, you want to quit because you think you can't cut the mustard anymore, but why back stab your ex-teammates a day later.. Poor form...
