Bruce Believes £8M Move Would Reignite Hard Done ByHitman After the departure of Darren Bent In January, Sunderland will look to Jermain Defoe for goals next season. The North East club have experienced an awful second half to the season since Bent left, leaving Steve Bruce looking for a goal scoring replacement. âDarren Bent did fantastically well here and scored a lot of goals. We have to go and find a replacement for him. We have to go and get a proven striker,â said Steve Bruce. Defoe has been far from prolific for Tottenham this season after contributing a measly 4 goals in the league. Defoe is believed to be the target for the Black Cats despite the England internationalâs poor season. After struggling with injury problems for the first half of the season, the striker just hasnât been able to establish himself in the set up signalling the time for him to move on. Questions have been raised over the quality of the player and his ability to really make an impact at the highest level. Spurs have been competing with huge expectations since being involved in the Champions League this year and it seems as though the striker just does not possess the quality to cope with it. He is a proven goal scorer in the Premier League however, and would be a great acquisition for Sunderland. Challenging for a top half place in the Prem and the hope of a Europa League spot at best is the type of standard that the player is much more accustomed to and suits in terms of quality. Like Darren Bent, he brings little to the build-up play and is largely just there to put the ball in the back of the net. This is not enough for a team hoping to regain fourth spot but is perfect for a club like Sunderland. This lack of adaptability is exactly why a big club has never signed the England man and is the reason why he will be moving away from White Hart Lane this summer. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ was Brucies lips moving, when he said these things? cynical I know, but Bruce has said a lot of things, and events happend the exact opposite, but then again, he might actually believe what he says, me unconvinced.
8 Million? knowing the spuds, they'd want at least 12 Million and Gyan before they'd even talk and the negotiations would take months
I would be one very happy bunny if I saw a picure of Defoe in an red and white shirt, IMHO he is the nearest we will get to Bent and will score goals.
Remember when we got Superkev, a pretty much unknown, and he got us goals, lots of them, Defoe we know can score goals, so what are we waiting for? **** I forgot about `arry, we probs will get Defoe for about £26 million plus add ons, and pay cash up front.
I'd drive him there myself. But in fairness all the SPuds board will want is the best deal possible, but in doing so they have a habit to look like a bunch of second hand car dealers, so be prepared for ball aching weeks and weeks of negotiations, it's unfortunate that they have players available that would benefit our squad.
Thats the great thing about football, and these sites, we all have differing oppinions, and can express them, but if we all thought the same, the likes of NOT606, would never get off the ground.
Highly rate him as a player Don't rate him at all as a person as i still think he could have pulled out the tackle that broke Gordons wrist Reasons i don't think he will come he will not move North Harry will want too much and insist on Gyan being part of the deal Reasons he should come I think it will reignite his goal scoring ability He will get a game every week
Callme old fashioned, dont you dare, it wont happen but I like the Defoe/Crouch double act, a Aldi version of SKP/SIR NIALL
Your old fashioned Syd. But spot on Defoe & Crouch would be fantastic. But its not going to happen. We need to move for forwards we have a chance of getting like Rodellga & Ba and we need to move now.
'Arry will put Defoe/Crouch in a Harrods bag and let Bruce pay the premium price More chance of Defoe going to QPR or Fulham
Good player on his day, but if questions are still being asked of his ****ed up knee(s) and with our history of injuries, then surely it's too much of a risk.
