Or deffered. Prem fans replacing long term loyals is hardly a good recipe for the future. The prem fans have already shown they'll just blow with the wind.
A minimal response to the HDM poll, c15% of 'city attendees'. Whether the balance don't read the HDM, don't care or have no issue with the name change is purely conjecture. I suspect (rightly or wrongly) that if such a poll was responded to by a higher number of attendees the percentage of objectors to the name change would reduce? So on balance it provides an insight, no more, no less. I for one would not see these poll results creating enough of an objection for The FA to NOT approve any proposed name change come next April. For me the club should include their own poll within the early season ticket reminders for 14/15 that will be issued over the coming months, offering an opportunity to respond via email or questionnaire to questions determined both by the club, CTID, and supporters not opposed to the name change to gauge a balanced view. If Allam bought into such a process now it would remove the immediate 'distraction' from match days, demonstrate a considered approach to the issue, and on the basis the name change did go ahead, could provide some accurate data to assist any possible re branding, or adjustment to the existing strategy being adopted by Allam. Unfortunately people don't like change, but such an approach could potentially get more supporters 'engaged' than at present
This is, without doubt, the most sensible and balanced post on this whole subject. And a bloody good idea.
You think more people would come and watch Stoke City if we were called Hull Tigers then attended on Saturday?
Pull yourself together man. You can do anything if you put your mind to it. Oh, and whilst you're at it, can you become a 20 goal a season striker please.
No, but I don't think fewer would have either. I think If the 20 to 30 regular posters on here (including myself) didn't buy season passes next season, another 20 to 30 others would. But I don't criticise people who go to watch good football, but don't bother watching poor football. After all I cherry pick all my other entertainment. I don't drink bad beer, only good. I don't watch crap on the telly, only stuff that entertains me. I don't eat KFC (for obvious reasons) but I do eat chicken etc. You see my point?
But thats not the point of the proposed name change. He wants to raise the profile of the club abroad. By giving us greater exposure to foreign markets, it increases our profile with advertisers. Surely an internationally recognised team could demand a higher price for shirt sponsors. Sad to say, but gate receipts don't contribute a lot towards income compared to tv revenue. Look at Celtic, with gates of 50-60 000. Where would they be competing in the premier league. I am not FOR the name change, but I understand why he is doing it. At the end of the day, when I walk out of my front door at 2pm on saturday I will still tell my missus I am off to watch city.
Do you really believe that? If so, where's the evidence that a name change will achieve this increase? Success and tradition is what they buy into in foreign markets, that and a good tv atmosphere.
Many of us don't live in the city and didn't vote in the mail ( I didn't know they were having a poll) Also a great number of Hull people don't buy the mail. So counting how many people voted is nonsense. But out of the people who did vote, the result is resounding, you can't argue wih it. ( though some will)
All opinion polls are taken from small samples, as long as the sample is a broad representation then the results should be fairly accurate. This poll may have been skewed by the "die hards" who go online everyday looking for City news but it's the opinion of these fanatical fans that mean the most surely?
Actually seriously for a sec, Obi a question for you: I was under the impression that the HDM wasn't being that supportive of CTWD due to not wanting to lose access to the club and pissing Dr Allam off. Clearly this article supports the view that the name change is not popular, and would fall under CTWDs aims. What's the situation with you and the HDM? PS So far, I think Obi's comment about Tenfoot is the funniest.
I see where you are coming from, but do the "die hards" mean the most? They pay no more for their tickets, buy no more merchandise, and yet they are the ones who grumble most about any moves the club makes to improve. Maybe we'd be better off with 25,000 new fans who buy the season tickets and the new kit every time it comes out, without carping that it was better 25 years ago. Might not suit you, or me, but from the club's point of view?
They're passing their opinion that the name doesn't matter to them. So in other words, whatever is decided wouldn't affect their view of the club.
