Gianfranco Zola resigns as Watford head coach

Gianfranco Zola has resigned as head coach of Watford with the club 13th in the Championship.
The Hornets have lost their last five home games and have not won in the league since early October.
In a statement on the club's website, 47-year-old Zola said: "I feel that it is in the best interests of the team that somebody new is given the chance to bring the success we have hoped for.
"It has been a privilege and a pleasure to serve this club."

Falling like flies today 9s. Crazy job despite the rewards. Huge respect to Zola for walking and not looking for the pay off (Mark Hughes take note).

Shame that. They looked like they were playing really good football, without getting end product

They massively overachieved last season. They had no right to be a kick or two away from the Premiership. As a result, expectations for this season went through the roof. He would have been better off had they not done so well last year.

Burnley are this season's Watford.

why is it that Managers contracts can be torn up, if their team dont perform; but, players' contracts cant ??

EDIT: woops just noticed other thread :)

Wonder if they'll grab this guy, to keep the Italian connection flowing:-

I'd have thought it likelier that they might go for Dyche. Although he'd have to have fond memories of playing at Vicarage Road for him to be tempted to leave Burnley for them at this moment. The guy at MK Dons (name eludes me at the moment)seems to be an ideal candidate. Milton Keyes and Watford are not that far apart and both sides play an attacking passing game.

I think that's a great suggestion. Btw Happy Birthday Kilburn <ok>

Thanks Nines - some people look at 60 as a bit of a milestone - my day started digging out from a 30 cm snowfall, so a bit late into work, taken out for a nice pub lunch by my work colleagues, my kids away at university phoned to wish me happy birthday, just ran out to pick up one of my daughters from basketball & debating society activities, now just a quiet family evening, will sip on Black Bush Irish whiskey later, so life is good.

You'd have no bother ploughing through snow in that big 300 Killy :)

Yes, the AWD on the 300 is great, but vehicle came with a set of brand new all season tyres, so does not have the same traction of winter tyres, with a more aggressive tread and softer rubber compound. Also the ESP sensor (skid control) is not working (ABS is fine though), so I do not have that driver aid available.

Unfortunately it definitely doesn't compare to my retired Toyota Corolla 4WD wagon, which admittedly I was driving with 13" winter tyres. The 300 has 18" rims so a winter set would be quite expensive to cover the next 3 months of driving. Sometimes you can get lucky and find a good used set already mounted & balanced on rims on Kijiji (a local version of eBay).

Zola once again proves he is everything that Hughes is not ................. hold your head high, Gianfranco.

Yeah but what about the clown that is attached to the tattoo ................ guess he'll have to come along for the ride. If I had such a robust build as him, I'd wear a tent.

Udinese reserves have appointed their new coach ----

This from the beeb website -

Watford appoint former Cheivo boss Giuseppe Sannino as head coach. The 56-year-old takes up his post immediately and will be joined by assistant coaches Francesco Troise, Giovanni Cusatis and Paolo De Toffol.

At least there won't be any language problems!!!!!
