I have looked at the 14:00 at Southwell and I can't have Kung Hei Fat Choy of this mark. He was a twice previous C & D winner off 59 and again with a 6lb penalty, but the only other time he has made the frame on the fibresand was a placed effort off 72, a mark to which he returns today. There are a number of other C & D winners in the field including Docofthebay who is well below his last winning mark, and with the claimer on Piceno, he also drops 1lb below his last winning mark. However, its a horse 6lb higher than his last winning mark that holds the key to this IMO. Sofias Number One has been nothing but progressive on the sand and won comfortably here on his last appearance, taking his 5th C & D success. Although now off a career high mark, he is most certainly up to defying this now returning to the sand. I've taken a single on him and also thrown together a trixie including Last King Of Scotland and Neighbourhood - who is a course winner at Southwell in a race with only one other winner on the Sand who is returning from a 258 absence.

Try Kung Hei Fat Choy on or after the 31st of January, 2014, which will then be the Chinese 'Year Of The Horse'.

Like a good few on here Wonderful Charm has done me a couple of turns already this year and I'm loathe to oppose him but I'm afraid today I have with Oscar Whisky 10/11. Not long to give reasoning but summary is that I think his first race against Tarquin de Seul is very good form, as Tarquin possibly should have won the G1 novice last week with a better jump and this race was Oscars chasing debut. Secondly Nicky's always improve for the run. Thirdly I think the 8lbs weight allowance definitely swings it to Nicky's horse. I think Oscar Whisky will win this with a bit in handy as Wonderful Charm hasn't met anything the calibre of him yet.

What of Thomas Crapper today chaps? Will he go well up in trip?

Hopefully as he's my other bet of the day. Each-way at 6s. Loves the track, should stay it I suspect and as old moon has noted earlier he's priced more attractively coming from a small stable. I'd be disappointed should he finish out of the frame but in saying that I usually avoid these handicaps as form so often goes out the window!

15:15 Cheltenham - Abruzzi e/w

(Will take a chance at 12/1 e/w with this progressive young stayer).

Moyle Park taken out of the 2m4f hurdle at Navan on Sunday (good - he's a Supreme horse Willie ;)) - Briar Hill left in by Mullins.Should be a fascinating race with Apache Stronghold in there.

I thought my reserve might be coming to win that but well and truly out-battled by The Skyfarmer on the run in.

The Skyfarmer won well in the 1.40 at Cheltenham and a chaser in the making, Lyvius was travelling the best approaching the last but is there a stronger jockey in a finish than Richard Johnson? IMO Adrian Maguire was the strongest jockey in a finish when he was riding in the 90's.

Return Spring has a good chance of winning the 3.15 for the Hobbs/Johnson team likewise Garde La Victoire in the last.

Afternoon lads

Three down with three to go - not looking good so far!

Duke of Lucca for me next up from Chelts, but small stakes only

Well done Oscar fanciers, the 8lb penalty did for WC - and a great ride by Geraghty <ok>

Strange performance by Any Currency

Under a drive from fully 12f out, then suddenly sprouts wings after the last to get to within 1/2 length of the winner ................

Southfield Theatre is one to avoid in the next <ok>

What a lovely sight, seeing Sunnyhill Boy coming to win that.

Great McCoy ride and performance from Sunnyhillboy who seems at home in either hurdles or chases <ok>

Last chance saloon with Doctor Harper - trust C4 to sod off before the end.

That's my treble gone. <doh> If Return Spring jumped the last fluently, wouldn't have made much difference to the result. Well done to backers of Sunnyhillboy.

Someone please tell Alice Plunkett that Andy Murray is a near certainty to win BBC Sports Personality Of The Year! AP's year was 2010, looks like Mo Farah will be runner up so hope AP finishes in third place.

Don't be greedy Gaz - you had a good day, no need to rub it in <laugh>

Right, that's me done, I'll put up the SSCC thread, then go study tomorrow's racing.

Fat lot of good that will do!
