I have been expecting it tbh, It just never worked out for him there as others find out at other clubs, it happens...I quite liked the guy and he did very well at cardiff seeing as you had no money and he had to sell his best players every season just to survive. He always put cardiff in with a chance every season on a shoestring so what he would have done if he had malky's money is anybodies guess....I hate fans disrespecting a former manager when he had worked his socks off for the club....

Dai - Dave Jones did a job at Cardiff through very difficult times, but to say he did very well is a matter of opinion that will vary widely. I respect yours, but don't diss others who differ from you.

Despite the money constraints, he was not deprived of sufficient cash to do the job. He made some terrible player purchases/loanees and his management of some like young Mathews was often appalling. The list of major bollucks dropped is almost endless, and this from a man who was allegedly the highest paid Championship manager at a club that had to borrow money to pay him.

Whichever way you look at it, he was ultimately a failure in football terms here. He was labelled the nearly man, and was rightly removed to give the club a fresh start after his 6 year tenancy. You will probably find there are a lot of people in Sheffield that think the same way right now.

Best of luck to him wherever he goes from there - and best of luck to the club as well whichever it is that gets him.

'Serious footballing question'. Don't you think he was an excellent manager for you and took you as far as you were capable?

Jones was widely supported here I seem to recall but now his management is labelled as at times "appalling" and he was "dropping bollocks" for fun. If any Swans fans came on here and said that at the time (and I'm sure some did) you'd have bitten our heads off. But our lot are the same about our previous managers too. They're great when they're with you but some turn on them when they've gone. Sad really.

For my part I dislike what Rodgers did in coming in for Allen - though that worked out brilliantly in the end - but will always be graetful to him for what he achieved with us. Ditto Martinez.

Jones took a very ordinary Cardiff side to Wembley a few times didn't he? Your players not performing on the day can hardly be laid at his door. I don't particularly like him but he's a decent manager imo and any club at that level would be fortunate to get him.

That's your opinion on the matter Aussie, and that's fair enough. I don't know why you find it necessary to highlight other poster's words though.

Isn't nice to go on another club's forum and be able to do that without being ridiculed? <ok>

<yikes> Have to agree with KJ, must be a first.

DJ did very well for us but 6 years at one club is too long a time (with one or two noteable exceptions such as SAF and AW) and it was too long for DJ in the last season. Agreed he made some poor acquisitions although some, in particular loan signings, were brought in to cover gaps in a thinly stretched squad and were all he could get at the time.

Malky's signings have not all been great although there are some doubts as to actually brought in players such as Brayford and Velikonja. Kiss hasn't actually set the world on fire either.

My real gripe with DJ is the bad mouthing he gave the club after he left which carried on to our home game v. the Wendies last year.

Could be a good call for the Wurzels but would they want him - does he still have his house in the Vale?

We played some good football under DJ and did well for us on very little budget, the Bothroyd, Chopra combo springs to mind. I wish him well wherever he goes next.

As most of you know I back DJ but am also realistic to know he dropped some clangers but equally he was our most successful managers before he was sacked. In my opinion his sacking was correct as he had done his best and it wasn't good enough. Good luck to the man.

Jones was slated plenty of times for his tactics and team selection when he was our manager, we had a right few goes at him on the old 606 I recall.
Certainly not a case of having a go because he isn't with us any longer.
When he put his mind to it he could get the team to play extremely well, we actually played some lovely football under him, but other times he had what can only be described as a couldn't care-less attitude, bit of a Jekyll and Hide about him.

Exactly Sweetblue. I backed Dave at the time but also reserved the right to question him. Some didn't like that on here and thought questioning him and his decisions was some sort of blasphemy.

His dogmatic approach to team selection could be annoying with his equally dogmatic 4-4-2 constant setup. Some of his substitutions were beyond belief in the stands, and he always defended his own position after the game by criticising others.

His dour approach to the media maybe a hangover from his own previous problems, but it often reflected on the club with his constant moaning. I could put up with all that, but in the end, we were going to go nowhere with him at the helm.

The suggestion that Tan's money would have made the difference to him is an assumption too far. It wouldn't have changed his approach nor his judgement - and that was a major factor that eventually cost us Premier League football during his time here.

He took over at Wednesday when they were already in a strong position in the table and just saw them scrape promotion from League 1 that season. Mandaric's money was made available, albeit a limited amount, and he barely kept them up last season, and although it's still fairly early, looks for all the world he'd have failed this time.
