I wondered where this thread had got to. I've got back in to FIFA lately and I still prefer 14 to those before it.

However, I just beat a guy online who was City and me as United, by keeping possession and moving the ball about and playing the easy percentage balls and limiting him to one shot in the whole game. When a chance opened up I got the cross in or through ball through and let my forward finish.

I won, 3-1. He then sent me a torrent of abuse for the way that I played.

I've seen a few people moan about this style of play, so is it a case of being effective or just down right annoying?
 
It's very annoying. It's similar to how teams like Chelsea play in real life, it works well etc but it's really boring, and this is a game, it's meant to be fun.

I'd never send messages of abuse or something, because again, it's just a game, but I'll definitely roll my eyes and load up FM.

Ah well. I quite enjoy totally dominating the game, for example, I just had about 71% possession in that game and he had just one shot.

Move the ball across the back four, into the two DMs and then around midfield waiting for him to draw one of his back line out of place before hitting the space quickly and finishing.

When I play open and end-to-end games I tend to get on the end of a few drubbings.
 
Worse thing about FIFA is the chipped passes over the top of the defenders. It's like your defender becomes a dumb bastard.

That's how I play actually, I usually end up with shed loads of possession. Only problem is when I occasionally make a stupid pass which I know I shouldn't even attempt but still do. So it's definitely a case of being effective, just think of it being like Southampton v Middlesborough in the Championship.

The kickoff move is worse. I mean, it's easy to defend when you know it's coming, but it's annoying that so many people try it so desperately.
 
Genuinely had one of the most bizarre games of FIFA ever.

The other guy had no shots at all but 68% possession and it ended 0-0. He tried to get at goal but never got far into the final third.

I can only presume he needed a point.
