PS. I can't throw a sickie. It's a meeting to discuss the recruitment of a Chief Executive Officer. Salary c. £150K. Fee 20%. My commission if successful £3k. = no sickie <laugh>

The contenders were:

Leicester
Dundee
Hull
Swansea Bay

And the winner was: Hull

What the **** does this tell you about the other three contenders? They must all be complete ****holes, because Hull is a ****ing hellhole.

Anyone had any experience of these places and if so, what are your views? Can you think of any worse cities to have been nominated, apart from Manchester, of course?

Culture <yikes>

I think this has become totally pointless. A city of culture surely requires some level of attraction... you know... at least Liverpool had a few things to attract some people like the cavern and such diverse ****e... now florence or some such city = city of culture. calling dundee or wherever a city of culture is a joke.

Strangely MITO, that was the whole point of the OP <laugh>

Depends what you class as cultural, isn't it?

The look of the buildings? The history of the place? Traits of the people from that City (dialect, slang, mannerisms)? Popular Culture?

Every city has culture. I'm sure the detractors of Hull getting it are basing it on the look of the buildings, council estates, unemployment etc, which is unfortunate.

Those are just the 4 finalists. Plenty of other cities applied to be city of culture but didn't make the short list

I take it you know all about the museums and festivals in Hull?

I don't blame you for your view its what is fed to the nation by the media

This was always intended as tongue-in-cheek, but you won't know that as you don't spend a lot of time one here. I got pissed in the Trog Bar once.

The supporters of one of your RL teams (can't remember which) are downright ****ing thugs though <ok>

Trog bar.Now there was a bit of class.A pub done out like a cave made of polystyrene.
The thugs you talk about will be the black and whites.WE are hoping by the end of the year of culture some of them will have embraced the whole knife and fork concept

I'm sure they could find plenty of things to do with a knife.:)

Are they the ones that share the KC?

Based on what I've heard, no ****ing chance <laugh>

Not wrong there <ok>

Especially after they'd forked out for one.<whistle>

Are they the ones that share the KC?

Unfortunately

What the forkinghell are you all on about?

One of my last culture nights was to see John Bishop. He tried bantering with the crowd about the East -West divide in the city(red/white & black/white).He asked if there was anyone in from North Hull(a few cheers from those not out robbing) he then asked if there was anyone in from SOUTH Hull-stunned silence-brainiest Reds fan not aware that SOUTH Hull is a river. You could not make it up!
