Don't know if any one saw the Sun newspaper yesterday but they had an article on our Signings,if they are a hit or a flop, ther is one hit,Paulinho, the jury is out on some ,but Eriksen&Saldado are amonst the folps.

I'm 100% sure that almost any regular poster on here knows more about the merits of our signings than the Sun hack who was given 200 quid, twenty minutes and a laptop to come up with marks out of ten for our signings.

Means absolutely nothing.

Yeah I saw it too Tots. I just laughed, thought it is from The Sun so it's to be expected.

In my opinion (so far):

Chriches - Hit - Very "exciting" CB.
Capoue - Hit (despite having long injury).
Eriksen - Jury's out - Started brilliantly but has faded a little.
Chadli - Jury's out - Barely played.
Paulinho - Flop - Started well but has been shocking last 5 or 6 games.
Soldado - Flop - Granted not had much service but for a £26m experienced striker, you have to expect more.
Lamela - Jury's out but more towards flop - AVB buys a £30m player and benches him, I know players need time but fee's of that nature spent by a club like us mean we really can't afford to leave a player like that on the bench for too long, though when he has played he hasn't looked too great bar a few glimpses of magic.

Too early to tell. Players who are in the Brazil, Argentina and Spanish squads must be good enough for Spurs but a lot of players take a long time to assimilate to the way football is played in England.

Judging players based on a handful of games in an unsettled team? Pass.

It certainly doesn't help that the majority of them are not played in their respective positions in which they performed well in their previous teams.

Gilberto had over 30 caps for Brazil, that dodgy fullback for the goo ers was a Brazilian international, Freund was part of the Germany team which was champions of Europe. I was told once that South American countries give out lots of caps because they play lots of games and also have friendlies/easier qualifiers where they pick just players who play domestically to reduce traveling burdens for their European-based players and keep domestic supporters happy that they can see their team's players pull on the national shirt. Dunno how true it is but it might explain some of the dodgy players I've seen who have loads of Brazil caps.

But the point is that caps for these countries are only the most basic indicators of quality and are by no means guarantees. Not even close. Plus players, like Veron or Morientes, can just fail to adapt.

Veron was a magical player for Argentina & Sampdoria, you would have viewed him as being a dead cert to settle here. Then you have Juninho who arrived as if he had grown up on the streets of Middlesbrough!

everyone (media wise) was calling Modric a flop back in the day...then he was played in his right position, given proper support on the pitch and hey presto he was good again!
Lamela has made 1 league start I think; Eriksen is played with different players around him every time he plays; Soldado has been asked to play differently than at previous clubs, Paulinio has not had a proper break in the summer due to Brazil playing in a tournament; Capoue was injured 3 games into the season; Chadli has hardly featured...
bit pointless calling them flops now...they called Henry a flop after not scoring in his first 9 matches (and no I am not comparing any of the above to Henry)

Indeed. I seem to remember that a certain Mr Bale was once considered to be a flop. Apparently, he was up for sale to the first reasonable bidder!..how times can change!...
