No. Metal Box had their own printing department, but I was in a small independent place up Woodend Ave, near the railway line. It's long since defunct.
One of the best scams ever took place at Metal Box after they closed it. They left a gang of lads to tidy the place up after they had removed all of the equipment. They were supposed to sign in using an exercise book which they duly did. The job was supposed to be for a week but nobody cam and told them that they were finished and their pay appeared each week in their bank accounts. So they turned up for work each day, signed-on, made a brew and read the paper, signed-off at 5. It lasted for nearly 9 months until some body at Metal Box Personnel noticed the payments.
70's. Not that old yer batard. It was a well-paid job then. Having said that, I got the bus for my first couple of years as an apprentice, then a motorbike at around 19. Got my first car at 22.
I wish. No hot water, outside lav etc,etc and a car outside (actually I've known people like that). First car 1978.
What was your firt car saint? Mine was a VW Beetle 1200. Last of the 6volt system (never started on the key) and headlights like candles in the wind!
Hot water came from a back boiler in a coal fire in ours, ****ing freezing in the winter unless you put lit firelighters in your shorts pockets.
Until they wanted a lift! I loved my Beetle has a Snoopy sticker on the back. Then I got a company car - posh that! That was a Cortina. Delivered to our offices in Knightsbridge. I drove it as far as Hyde Park Corner before it caught fire!
Aye aye, your generation had a millions tons of wood to burn following Hitler's attempts to destroy Liverpool in WWII. #imalrightjackandwarmastoast.
No we didn't we'd already sold the wood to the Brummies or the Suveners or some bugger! All we had was bags of nutty slack!!!! And it was colder when me and saint were kids. We had it hard not like toy mollycoddled lot
