Darron Gibson: I’m up for move to Sunderland
Darron Gibson

Published on Saturday 11 June 2011 12:00

IRELAND midfielder Darron Gibson would relish a move to Sunderland.

The 23-year-old is one of three Manchester United players targeted by Black Cats boss Steve Bruce following the sale of Jordan Henderson to Liverpool.

A fee of around £12million is understood to have been accepted, and Gibson is up for the move – and he hopes United team-mates John O’Shea and Wes Brown will also be interested in a move north.

With Bruce and the players on holiday, any deals are likely to be at least a fortnight away, but Gibson (pictured) is keen on the chance to kick-start his career with Sunderland.

He said: “It wouldn’t faze me one bit to leave Manchester United. All I want is what’s best for me.

“So, if the best thing for me is to leave and go somewhere that I’ll play every week, then so be it.

“Steve Bruce has played under Sir Alex Ferguson as well and I think he bases his managerial style on Sir Alex. If it came to it, I would love to play for Steve Bruce, but, at the minute, I’m not sure what’s going on.

“It would not only be a massive help for us (including O’Shea and Brown) going together, but it would be a massive boost for Sunderland as well. We’ve played together for four or five years, we know each other and that experience would be brilliant for any team.

“Even if we went individually, it would be brilliant for the club.”

Gibson added: “It has come to the stage where I’m nearly 24 and I’m going to have to go somewhere else if I don’t start playing regularly.

“If it comes down to it, I just want to go somewhere where it’s right for me.

“I haven’t sat down with Sir Alex to talk about it, but, obviously, if it comes to me not playing as much as I would like next season then I’ll have to move on.”

He is the one I want most out of the 3, solid attacking midfielder with prem experience, given a chance he could be an excellent player for us. Lets face it a lot of us moaned about how average Henderson was for most of the season in the central midfield role, we moaned even more about Richardson in that role so this lad could be just what we need to play alongside Catts or Melyer and give Colback some healthy competition for places.

I would not mind O'Shea either but Brown can stay put, I am not a fan of his at all.

Still these are squad players in my mind, I am waiting for a couple of big names, if we sign Ji Dong Won (whatever his name is), NGog and Larson then we need a couple of big names. I would personally be happy with NZog and Welbeck. To be quite honest I can't see who else we would get. One thing is for sure we should steer clear of doing business with Spurs.

True, but time will tell.

Sounds to me like he feels all high and mighty after playing for Man Utd, and thinks he'll be doing Sunderland a massive favour by choosing them.

That attitude seems a bit odd to me.

We need players, he's doesn't seem like a bad guy to have available to us, still young enough to have lots of time to develop. Rather have him than a few of the others mentioned in the gossip columns.

Oh he'll be a good player, no doubt. I just have a feeling that he may believe he's from the higher echelons of football and he's doing you guys a huge favour by 'dropping down' to play for Sunderland.

I mean what kind of players have media interviews and just talk about how awesome they are and how class they're going to be for a club?

He can shoot his gob off all day as long as he can do the job on the pitch, confidence isn't a bad thing.

True words. If I were a mackem though I'd just hope he wouldn't be too egotistical. Just imagine if he was and Bruce decided to rotate the team one day and drop him to the bench.

"WHAT?! You're dropping ME, and ex-manchester united player TO THE BENCH?! DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM"

Thats true, but you never really know the player until you've got him, you can get manager/coaches points of view but until you start to work with him you never know how he'll react to the Sunderland way of doing things. It may not be a bad thing in a player to have a bit of attitude but as long as he isn't another diouf or chimbonda.

Thanks mate,

My 2 loves music and SAFC, but revolve around money and dodgy deals :emoticon-0104-surpr

Working in the music industry has taught me the real story is usually very different from what is printed in the papers, I can only assume football is the same.

I will just be happy if we start signing some players rather than selling them.

Nice one word answer for you.
