ok then, mackem in relative peace. you've signed cabaye (sp?). how? at least for the next year or two (even with you getting relegated) anyone OUTSIDE england will still see you as the biggest team in the NE but with ashley / pardew i honestly fail to understand why/how you can still attract good players. but even then any agent worth his salt should realise the bigger picture in the NE and prem overall. so it goes back to how/why

In prem history Newcastle have had a good amount of champions league and other european football. While your lot have yo-yo'd in and out of the league plenty of times, Newcastle have pretty much yo-yo'd in and out of the top 7, from Keegan down to Dalglish/Gullit then back up with Robson and down with Souness and a slight revival under Roeder and back down again. Newcastle has a huge support and a huge stadium and the club is on pretty good financial grounds not to mention the back catalogue of top class players who've worn the shirt since the start of the premier league.
Like it or not we also have to accept that some players will see us as a chance to impress current top 4 teams via a current mid table team, but if that gets us higher up the table and closer to being a top 4 team again ourselves I won't complain.

Because we have a better stadium, history, manager and we've got a good reputation in France. You got Sessegnon and Gyan who are top quality so stop whining little bitch.

so the history basically is what you're saying - don't want a f**ing novel like. think i agree though. strange in football. history v future. history/tradition always wins

Brand recognition. They recognise us more on the continent because we had some huge matches in the Champions League under Robson. If you asked someone in England who the bigger club was Deportivo or Sporting Gijon? 99% would say Depor remembering their exploits in the Champions League a few years back and all the goals Tristan was scoring. Even though Depor have just been relegated whilst Sporting finished top half.

Future? You mean selling your top striker in january then your best youth prospect in the summer, having a fan favourite player who is quoted as saying "if sunderland want to keep me there's nothing I can do", seeking to bring in 3 players Man United want rid of because of their poor quality and Liverpool's worst player too. I'm not going to start dick comparing here because neither team has anything set in stone yet this transfer window but your future isn't looking as rosy as you seem to think it is at the moment.

:emoticon-0139-bow:Plus their fans are deserting them in droves for the local pub! Not to mention the chairman having to trawl said bars to try to drag them to the match....

haha who said that?

Ouch!! THat's got to hurt <laugh>

I'd say we have one of if not THE best scout in the business in Graham Carr, Tiote,Ben Arfa &Now Cabaya. All releativly unheard of over here and we've moved quick to get him. Also as people have said, Branding (european football put us on the map) The entertainers of the 90's was recognised wider than just the uk and is still remebered, we've also got good relations with French clubs after the handling of Ben Arfa after his broken leg.
MA and Llambias went out to France to see him in person to see how he was getting on, little things go a long way.

Why do some Sunderland fans like this guy talk about their present day team as if it's sooo much better and more successful than ours? Barring one season in the Championship which was the fault of poor management at the top of the club and greedy, lazy "big" players, there's been very little in it in terms of league positions and performances.

They've now hit an obvious plateau in terms of growth and improvement, limited money and can't get the crowds in, yet some clowns like this guy seem to think their "future" is going to consist of them wiping the floor with us and leaving us behind?

Bollocks, we have the better squad now and I'd put big money on it that we're going to be vastly improved come September 1st. We're 3 quality players off CHALLENGING for Europe, whereas they have spent an enormous amount of money and got nowhere. How many did Bruce say they needed? 8? 10? <laugh>

newcastle might lose

- enrique
- barton
- nolan

sunderland will lose

-gyan

and id still know which side has the brighter futre
lets face it newcastle are after cabaye, gervinho, gemeiro and n'zog
sunderland are after the players newcastle havent deemed good enough - larsson anyone?

TOONARMY - 8th
Sunderland - 14th

heres my prediction

I looked at this guys typing and grammar and didn't bother reading <doh>

However from the comments I get this impression "WE BETTER DAN U! U GET PLAYERS ME MAD!! N'GOG DA BEST IN DA WORLD!! ME EAT PIZZA NOW..WHAT IS A SHOWER?! HAS ANYONE SEEN ME FISH?!!??!?!?!?!?! I LOVE BRRUUUCCCEEEE!!!!"

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I dont quite understand this posters point! How can we even compare the two clubs. Quite simply we have had so much more success over the last 15 years and this is why players still want to play for us.

I can see the mackems going down next season if they keep spruce in charge!
