Sounds like a mix of complacency, poor administration and a total lack of investment in the right areas. I remember Michael Holding talking about the money that got wasted when the good times were rolling and how difficult it became to keep the different associations on the different islands pulling in the same direction. So now they've gone from the likes of Holding, Walsh and Ambrose to Tino bloody Best Hardly going to pull the punters in either eh. I played for Aston Uni and Combined Unis. I once faced Bob Willis in Warwickshire's nets. He was off 3 paces. Didn't see the ****er, never mind hit it
My brother is mates with Monty Panesar so he arranged a little sessions - even he was faster than I expected! Bowling looks so much slower on tv!
Sky have for the first time allowed the highlights on free to air. It's on "Pick" at 10 o'clock tonight what ever next! Bit more info "Sky have announced that they will make highlights of this winterâs Ashes series available on free-to-air television for the first time. Action from the day will be available throughout the winter on the channel Pick, accessible on Sky channel 152, Freeview, Virgin Media and Freesat".
Managed to stay away until about 1ish. I we've done well so far, shame we allowed them to get back into it a bit with that partnership in the middle but if we can knock them out for 300 and then go get a big score, pressure will immediately be put back onto the batsmen again to produce the goods. Can't see Cook, Trott, KP all having poor series again. Batting line up looks good and more solid with Root down the order and Carberry at the top.
I played for Cheshire when I was younger and did a 3 week tour of the West Indies in the early 80s mixed with Derbyshire Colts Got seriously leathered by Barbados U16s and Trinidad U16s I was an opener and came home bruised to feck with a smashed finger which I get arthritic problems with now as it never healed
Was standing behind the nets a few years back when Pakistan toured England, seeing Wasim Akram warm-up off 3-4 paces, I shat myself, I'd pull a muscle walking out the crease if I had to face that sort of bowling!
Played against wasim akram twice in the last couple of years,he plays with Neil fairbrother at grappenhall in the over 40s league.Only bowls off a few paces but is plenty sharp enough
