Interesting. Still would be surprised if we don't have strong competition for him.

But when we spoke to him before we weren't 3rd in the Premier League!

No, just acknowledge, like most people, that Ramirez is a very talented player.

I'm expecting one out and one in. Ramirez out; anyone's guess as to a replacement. I don't think it's a good idea to do any more than that in the January window.

No, they just see a player out of favor who actually showed a great deal of promise in Italian football.

The deeper one looks into the squad, the more adequate it appears to be, particularly if a player or players are only coming into the team as temporary replacements through suspensions and small injuries. But what happens when half the team are decimated through illness..? Truth is, I don't think any club can adequately cover for that. Personally, I don't think we should be looking to cover or backup positions, rather that we need to strengthen the first team proper. Whoever is displaced becomes cover for that position [eg, Jack Cork]. It's possible that Boruc could get some proper competition, but that's about it on the back up policy, as far as I'm concerned. Where to strengthen..? I don't know. At present there are no obvious weaknesses in the side, unless you say that they could all be improved. Maybe Astori and Banega..? I certainly wouldn't be buying players to automatically become 2nd in line. That way lies mediocrity.

That's a good point TSS but in a couple of positions we are light and there are no real opportunities to get youngsters like Targett and others first team experience. So we do run a risk if we pick up key injuries. Maybe you are right and we only buy to improve.

I think our lightest area is up front. When Osvaldo was out recently, if we'd needed a goal I really can't think of anyone we could have brought on up front to do that for us.

Besiktas in for Fonte according to Peach. If they had bid in the summer, maybe, but I'd be surprised if we sold him now.

Yes, I can see an argument for that.

I've just told off Fran for mentioning a subject that should never be uttered and now I'm going to mention one myself...

A Rickie Lambert replacement..! [Now that requires 3 smileys]
