Can't really compare the footballing business to anything else though mate.

In an ideal world all managers would be similar to Fergie/ Wenger in terms of longevity but that'll never be the case while money is more important to those at the top than the football itself.

Yay! Now we have a very-slightly-attacking player as one of two DMs! That's a step up from having five very high quality players on the pitch at any one time whose main job was attacking like we had two years ago.

Nowadays I'd say we have, what, two? Townsend and Eriksen/Holtby.

I don't disagree with most of your post. But it has occurred to me that if AVB had a squad whose core has played together for a few years, and Pochettino had a squad with 6 or 7 new starters, they might be in opposite positions. It's hard to quantify how much it helps to have a squad that's used to each other except to say it probably makes a very considerable difference, and that it probably takes a couple of years before a new squad is as good together as they're going to get.

This is not to say I like how AVB has been getting us to play in home games, though I hope and may even think that's changing.

It's also a completely different situation for the 2 managers. Just look at how Hull were set up against us and then in their game against Southampton. One of our main problems we are failing to overcome is the lack of space when we get the ball due to teams sitting deep as they can. Managers like Pochettino have not proved yet they have an answer for this as they are unlikely to experience this problem.

Yup. Fair to say AVB has got a strange and in many ways difficult situation--and also that ATM he ain't doing very well with it.

It seems that there's cycles to what Spurs are missing in their team:
A quality goalkeeper (anyone who played Walker, Keller or Gomes, and the same can be said for Brad Friedel in the past year)
A reliable back four (Gerry Francis, Harry Redknapp)
A defensive midfielder (Christian Gross, Martin Jol)
A reliable source of goals (Glenn Hoddle, AVB)
    A clue (Juande Ramos)
A backup plan (all of the above)

For example, Jol had the Keane and Berbatov pairing doing so much for him but a central midfield of Zokora and Jenas wasn't going to be putting up much resistance, hence the amount of long-range goals that we let in at this time. Under Harry we had protection in midfield from Palacios, Parker and Sandro, yet there was always the potential for a clanger from one of the back line, usually Gomes but there were plenty of howlers from other members of the back four.

We've got the goalkeeper right, we've got the protection in midfield, and we've got a more solid back line - so, naturally, the goals dry up and the player signed to score them isn't doing his bit, although Soldado has already beaten Helder Postiga's tally for us.

It's important to vary the ways in which we're doomed.

    Otherwise it would get old.

We need to find a new way to make a bollocks of a season. Strikers that score too many own goals?

After today the whole team look like a complete waste of money.

    Llamela value 5 million
    Paul value 5 million
    Soldado value 5 million
    Chaldi value 2 million

Last years buy such as Dembele, Siggy have been ****e worth no more than 5 million on form and Holtby even less.
Only players to hold value are Llioris, Verts.
Has a club wasted 100 million in one transfer window and actually become worse ?

Let's be fair to Chiriches and Capoue who have looked half decent.

    A DM and a CB.

Unfortunate for us that the ones who look OK are ones we don't really need what with having sold Bale, VDV, Modric in the last 18 months. Every attacking aspect of the new arrivals looks poor. I just cannot believe that we broke our transfer record three times to buy Paulinho, Soldado and Lamela. Lamela is our most expensive player ever. And he's shown so far that he's nowhere near the level of Tom Carroll and Andros Townsend! Never mind the truly class players that we should have been aiming to replace.

Spurs cannot afford to spend 25m on a kid who's no better than our own youth players. Ridiculous.

Whilst I would probably agree regarding Soldado - he doesn't 't look worth the money, I think many are rushing to inaccurate conclusions re some of the others - especially Lamela. Here is a young man who has been widely acclaimed everywhere else. Our own Spurcat, who has seen him on the training pitch says what a talented player he is. So, why is he not performing to his potential?

Well, firstly he is a young man who has come to a different league, different culture, different language that he doesn't speak. He is also badly in need of a manager to give him some confidence in himself - AVB seems to be having the opposite effect!

As YV has alluded to elsewhere, he needs time to settle. If we were expecting instant fireworks for our money, we were clearly expecting too much...

If we get four good players out of the seven plus Holtby we will be doing well.

Lamela is probably the biggest gamble we've ever made. He could be worth £5m or £50m in two years time. But that is exactly the sort of bet we needed to have made with some of the Bale money.

Let's not forget Jovetic has hardly played for Man City. Him and Lamela where the two young stars last year in Italy . Let's not write off players yet. Apart from Chadli.

    Current buying policy consists of:

Buying mostly exciting attacking talent worth 10s of £Ms only to play them in a boring, rigid, defensive system.

According to transfermarkt our squad is worth more than Arsenal's or Liverpool's. That is a truly remarkable achievement given they have much higher turnover. It's only two thirds of City's, Chelsea's and Utd's of course.
