Pellegrini's the same at City Boss, bit of a butterfly. Most coaches who come to us take a nosedive afterwards, look at Jol. Hopefully Pellegrini will be sacked after his next match.
LOL You don't like him much. Or rate him. City fans are getting tired of his tinkering. Foreign managers and their tinkering. Remember ranieri?
What I'm saying is that he'll lose to us and adios amigo. I don't suppose I do rate him all that highly no but I don't think he's long for City. 7-0 win then a 1-0 defeat, who the hell can predict them?
Ferguson was a constant tinkerer, yet he never seems to have been called on it unlike Ranieri, Benitez et al ...then again, come next year he'll be as foreign as them!
Foreign managers who don't fully understand the English game tend to tinker as they believe the constant changes are productive, yet it ends in the team generally failing to meet their domestic goals, which is why Bentinez and Ranieri get picked up on their tinkering. Unfortunately for the Fergie haters, he was a tad successful at his job, so he can lay claim to the fact his methods worked and backed up with a few trophies here and there.
Don't agree WY, how can the jury be out on a manager who has 3 titles in the 3 different countries, you can't really use the he's had the best teams and money angle, because thats been available to other managers of these sides before and after and not all have had the same success. I'd wager he'd improve Everton and Spurs without any shadow of doubt, you could say Porto were an Everton or Spurs in terms of CL oppostion, yet he won that with them. I don't particularly like him like you and most people, but you can't knock the mans record.
The mourinho of the old, the one who was porto manager, chelsea manager and inter milan manager was the best in the world, he was simply an outstanding motivator who could inspire any team to success. I do think he has lost some of his spark since he went to Madrid, even though he won a title, thats the least you would expect but that job changed him and he has lost some of that edge he had before.
All successful top level managers make almost constant changes. Those that fail get criticised for it because the old school thought is to never change a winning team. Adapting to the opposition, keeping your squad fresh and involved and keeping your opposite number guessing are all key.
I wouldn't say they make constant changes, but more the successful managers know you need a strong core of players that have to play and then you have a variety of players who can be used in and around that core, an aspect Fergie knew. Managers like Ranieri would "tink" for the sake of tinkering, just because he could, he had an urge to try and prove a point with making changes.
I'd agree with that, Guardiola and Barca remain his 2 nemesis, and maybe the overwhelming desire to beat both clouded his judgement. His poor record there a blot on his CV, but c'mon, Barca in their pomp under PG was almost mission impossible, he and Madrid at the time were a mere thorn in their side but at least he managed that, tbh I think thats as much as anyone was going to do against them.
A manager could sign Heskey for £40mill so long as they reach their targets they'll be a good manager. Avb could spend his time on the touchline practicing Morris dancing with Freund, had we won on Sunday he'd still be a good manager. Unfortunately neither happened, which begs the question, why wasn't Avb Morris dancing on Sunday? As fans we in the mainly rely on hindsight. Sure we have our own ideas but even if the manager went with our ideas and we lost it's still his fault. Some thought Bale should be moved into the middle last season but the vast majority didn't. I thought Dembele would do well pushed further forward, we tried it and it didn't work. It's easy to see what Avb's getting wrong in our position but it's more difficult to actually prove it and it's likely we're not right anyway. But hey where would be the fun in admitting we're massively under qualified to speculate how we should be playing. It's just an idea to keep in mind that we don't really know what's right.
True YV, AVB played Bale at left back, left wing and right wing, he finally found his best position through the centre, so he has the luxury of making mistakes until he gets it right!
And we have the luxury of criticising everytime it goes wrong, especially if it's something we disagreed with all along. Had City gone and beaten Sunderland on the weekend I think we'd all prefer Pellegrini was our manager. By the same token, had we finished our chances better against Newcastle we'd be 2 points off top and even the most ardent critic would have to say Avb's doing well, or better than Mourinho at least. So isn't it us who are in the luxury of being able to change our minds from game to game and not the managers who have to stick by there decisions?
Maybe Morris dancing's a bit old fashioned to provide the entertainment we need. He should do something more modern like swinging around half naked on a wrecking ball. Okay we're well off topic now but I did have point I was trying to make earlier. If I could just remember what it was...
With all these luxuries floating about, we're not a very happy bunch of fans! LOL No of course its easy for fans to criticise, all of us are armchair managers, every single football fan in this country watches their team and sees things they believe the manager is doing wrong, some are right, some are wrong, yet if a fan is changing their opinion from game to game, then they aren't being fair or realistic. However most of us tend to share a particular view and stick with that view until there is real proof we're wrong, and I believe that's fair enough.
Ferguson had a run of well over 100 games without fielding the same starting XI in consecutive fixtures towards the end of his career. He consistently rotated, but it was largely ignored by the media. It's one of those things, like if someone is successful with zonal marking.
I did say core, not starting Xi. The core basis of fergies teams where part of his success and how can the media critise a managers methods when he's winning a title or cup every year. People will do whatever they can to attack fergie, it's the nature of trying to find faults in successful people that aren't liked.
Right and wrong can be more difficult than that though. If someone said that West Brom would beat Chelsea are they wrong because the referee made a bad decision? Would someone else that said Chelsea wouldn't lose to West Brom be right? Not picking on Chelsea for another reason than it was right at the end of the game. We've seen in the last 2 seasons the fine lines in football, one result improved for us would've led to either Avb or Redknapp having had a great season. The same can apply to players tactics or anything else. The same with the reasoning behind it, look at my prediction league attempts if we do win 5-0 and Soldado scores a hat trick it won't make me right because I'm just being optimistic, it's in my nature.
