I really liked Hendo, and I wanted him to stay, being a local lad come good, and with potential to improve much further. Saying that, how long did people think he was going to stay for? If it wasnt this summer, it would have been next. Since he broke into the first team we could always tell he'd end up at a top club (last 6 months aside). Didn't want him to go, but proud our city and academy have produced a lad who will play at the highest level. LFC get a great young English prospect, who has the potential to be really good either in CM or RM/RW. He had a brilliant time at his hometown club, who he'll always have in his heart, and now he also has the opportunity to test himself at the highest level and win things. SAFC get a good sum of money to reinvest and strengthen several areas of the team. Hendo- good luck, you go with the club's blessing, and here's to you winning trophies for years to come (but not against us). A win-win as far as I see it.
He was not a star player. Star players run games, they create and score goals. Over 70 games 4 goals and 9 assists. If we were paying that much for a player with those stats the same people who are saying why are we selling would be saying why are we paying so much.
That many fans are happy to cash in and take the money is partially the main reason we have amounted to **** all for 50 years. We will NEVER be able to compete with the bigger clubs if we keep selling them our brightest young prospects and established players. Its a catch 22 position and the overall status quo of English football will remain unless clubs like ours start to believe in themselves and our supporters stop accepting that £20m (however good a deal) isn't building long term success but is actually undermining that progress. It shows the better players we all covert that we are not ambitious enough to warrant or deserve their services. players like Pavlyuchenko, N'Zogbia, Crouch etc see SAFC as a bottom half club, who are now selling off their bright stars and looking to bring in the old crocks and past sell by date players that mean stagnation for the club, not progression. £20m seems on the surface like a good deal for a lad who i like enormously but who has flattered to deceive a little this season. However, I do think he would have developed with us had we had the foresight to hang onto him and bring in a replacement for Bent. Our already paper thin squad is once again reduced further from the selling of a player that has been the stalwart for 2 years now. The summer recruitment now has taken on a gargantuan status, if it wasnt big enough already and Bruce and Quinn simply have to start building confidence amongst supporters again and very soon if some general unrest is not to sweep the ranks.
I think its a good deal not just because of the amount its because I think he is not better than average. I wish him well because he seems a genuine lad who lives right. I just think Liverpool have made the mistake not Sunderland. Also he wanted to go.
Oh really, & the lanky streak of piss lass smacking, coke snorting, burned out car ****ing twat was worth £35m aye?
Oh sorry, forgot to ad, glassing coward as well, he's a slag, Jordans a level headed lad from a good family, Carrol should've been burned at birth.
Who gives a flying f*ck what you think - filth!!! Just worry about FMA destroying your joke of a small club. Lol Bart
Some mackem's man jesus christ. Of course we ripped Liverpool off as well. Who said ripping them off was a bad thing? If you've done one over on Liverpool and got far more cash than Henderson is worth (like we did with Carroll), then all credit. Football is a cut-throat world. If you can rip off another club, then it's great.
That's sort of what I meant with the 55m bit, I was agreeing..! Wires crossing methinks. Now from sales you've got 35m and we've got 40m - game on to see who can spend it best by September!
I see your point however put yourself in Jordan's shoes, he get a chance to play alongside one of the worlds top midfielders in Gerrard, increase his wages to a reported £65k a week, almost certainly guaranteed Champions League football next year, increase his chances of International call up. You can't blame the kid really, can you? We can't offer him that yet, so best of luck kid, hope it all works out for you.
Cool. Heres him in his youth, doing keepy uppys in his fave clubs shirt. please log in to view this image
Welder - I cant blame JH for wanting to better himself and earn £65k per week, nor am I saying this is all bad. If we invest the money well we may be all smiling but my thought is that we are selling players with no plan B here. Why not negotiate the replacements first? If we signed Pavlyuchenko, N'Zogbia, Larsson and Vaughan for say circa £26m and then sold JH for £17m and even added N'Gog as a counter weight, then there is no debate to be had. 4 good players in and a gamble for good measure all for a net spend of £9m. Great business. Now though, knowing we have a wedge of dosh, Wigan will demand top dollar, Spurs will play hard ball as usual and other clubs will smell our wallet before we get close to players. Its a poor way to do business. We are now in a very poor position to negotiate for players IMO.
Every club at our level is a selling club if the price is right. N'gog is only 22 and over 6ft tall. He didn't set the world alight at Liverpool but he could be a success at our present level. If we get the three from united plus Welbeck it will start to look good as we will have a good solid squad with both experience and strength in depth. Unfortunately the whingers will never be happy. I'm not ecstatic about it but I do have the objectivity to reaslise that we are still building and a good solid performance and eigth place or just above next season will be a further step forward and I'll be happy. As for the whingers, well. They'll be there in abundace as usual.
You really are the real Bart Simpson. We can bid for who we like but past experience tells us we will only get those who want to come.
That wasn't my point, i was just looking at it from Jordons perspective, although you have some very valid points. If the season were to start tomorrow we'd be ****ed. But thinking back to what SNQ said a couple of days ago, apparently we are very active in the market right now so i'm hoping to hear of some announcements very soon. Personally I don't think we'll get Pav, Crouch, N'zog etc as quoted in the press. Vaughan, Larsson, yes I think they will come but the others will either go overseas or to a top 6 team. I'd love to see them come to us but i just can't see it happening, the wages will be the issue.
