If true then this is the best news I've heard all week. N'Gog is rubbish lads. Couldnt hit a cows arse with a 20ft banjo.

Nowhere neat good enough even for a squad player. Let some other unsuspecting idiot buy him and pay Liverpool the £7m or £8m. We have escaped by the skin of our teeth with this news.

I am not saying he would be another Forlan, but Forlan only scored 10 goals in 63 games for Man United, so you just never know in this game.

Steve - the thing is Forlan was pants as a 21 year old at Utd and didn't mature in to the top class player he is today until he was 25/26. N'Gog today is useless and would add nothing at all to SAFC whilst commanding a huge salary (he wont be on peanuts at Anfield) and seemingly a very large transfer fee for a very poor track record.

Let him be a guinea pig elsewhere and not with us. We need impact players that will make a difference now not in 4 or 5 years time. N'Gog isnt that man.

you sure about that cest? he is 32 now so was 22 when he went to Man U but had already done the business for independiante, and then done the business again at Villareal. All i am saying is, some players dont play well for certain clubs, to much pressure, too young and too much pressure, systems, manager, other players whatever. It doesnt look like he is coming anyway, but i just dont think he would be a complete right off if we did get him, would he score 20-30 goals a season, probably not, but Bent has only done 20+ goals twice in his career, once with us and the other in 46 games in the Championship with Ipswich.

    1998–2001 Independiente 80 (37)
    2001–2004 Manchester United 63 (10)
    2004–2007 Villarreal 106 (54)
    2007– Atlético Madrid 134 (74)

Steve your agreeing with me and disagreeing at the same time. I cant count South American club football as valid personally, so lets go from Utd. If he was 22 at Utd and bombed, he would have been 25 when he went to Villareal, did really well and 27 when he became a world class player with Madrid.

N'Gog may be a really good player in another 4 or 5 years but right now, today, he wouldnt add to our club at all IMO mate but would demand big wages and a fee in excess of £3m? He's an expensive gamble and adds no value for us there for me.

I just read an article in the Echo stating that he has a £3m price tag. If he doesn't work out, we should be able to recoup most, if not all of that back. I've heard it suggested that maybe his best position is as a winger, not striker? Could be a good shout as he is lightening quick.

not sure why you cant count a south american club, thats like saying most of peles goals didnt count as he got them in Brazil.

not trying to stir anything up here btw, but just because you (and me i have to add) no feck all about south american football, doesnt mean you can just discount his record over there.

Ngog latest: deal in place with #Lfc, but he's on hols in US & #SAFC happy not to rush him back. So not imminent, but he's keen to join.

He's due back next week, so we'll see what happens then.

Hey, my knowledge of S American footy is reserved from the Channel 4 games they used to show 10 years ago and the Sky stuff they show every now and again and I agree its not perfect. However, what I have seen isn't that good and than fact is that 90% of Argentina and Brasil players play in Europe tells me everything I need to know mate.

As for Pele, I think a lot of his fame is clouded in rose tinted spectacles form most fans. Yes he was a good player but chose to play all his career in a sub standard league. For me, as a child of the 70's the greatest footballer ever was Cruyff, who played at the very highest world level regularly in Europe and won everything domestically.
Was he better than a bloke who scored 1000 (supposedly) goals in park football over a man who did so in Holland and Spain? Not for me but hey, that's a whole new debate mate?:emoticon-0105-wink:

BTW - how are you doing Steve?

yeah i am doing fine, cheers.

going back to forlan though lol

his 37 goals in 80 games is still pretty good going

ronaldhinho 21 goals in 44 games
    crespo 24 in 62
robhino 46 goals in 111 games

All i am trying to say is, some players join a club and for whatever reason, just cant settle at all, or score for toffee (shevchenko at chelsea, Torres at chelsea for now), N`Gog may be a complete waste and not worth 20p, but then thts bruces fault and he will have to face the consequences with his job probably, he may also get 10-15 goals and be immense for us if giving a run in the team, problem is and not getting at you as such here, we will sell him for 15-20 million and everyone will be up in arms, selling a good young player lol

lets just see what he is like when he comes, he may be a breath of fresh air, no one gave welbeck a chance when he came, "why play a loan player over ours etc etc" and now everyone wants to buy him back.

    Good to hear.

Fair play, we'll just have to see what it all brings. We cant stop it so we'll have to accept it i guess and hope against hope he turns ourt to be our Forlan not another le Tallec.

BTW - i was ine who said a loan player shouldn't be played over a permanent one but I also said we should have made his signature permanent and I still do.
