Don't post too often these days but events from yesterday have provoked me into writing this.
First Lloris's injury- I am disgusted that AVB considers it his call to let a clearly concussed player play on, that decision should be taken away from him by the medical staff.
That said they didn't cover themselves with any glory either letting the player decide whether to stay on or not.
I have just read this article on the BBC website where experts slam the club for letting happen.

Secondly and I'm pretty sure there a few like me, for the first time in years I did not bother to watch a Spurs match.
The way we are playing with no sign of a change makes me despondent for the reputation of our glorious club.
I don't want this season to be remembered as the "Boring Tottenham" season, we have a go at the gooners for their past reputation.
We have a fabulous squad doing sweet fa -the mustn't lose mentality is doing my head in.
My dear old grandad must be spinning in his grave.
Unless something changes there will be more like me, lifelong supporters becoming disillusioned with the way we are headed.

If he over-ruled the medical staff then he was wrong and all the criticism is justified. If the medical staff decided he was ok to continue then I think they got it wrong. Either way he should not have been allowed to stay on.

But the rest of the rant is a bit OTT! We played very well yesterday, almost no chances conceded and a fair few created.
 
Enough Mr AVB, joint second in the league after 10 games and a new look squad is not good enough.

Dear Mr AVB, can we please stop keeping clean sheets away from home.

Not talking about league position I'm talking about the sterility of some of the performances.
I am entitled to vent my feelings same as you -if you don't like what I said no need for personal insults.
Don't know how long you have supported Spurs , not long I suspect!
 
What a ridiculous BBC article to have comments on! It seems to be a rarity that they open an article with comments these days but what on Earth are the great unwashed masses supposed to be able to add about brain injury, the experts have had their say, Spurs were wrong.

I don't get the comments about the match though, in the first half we played really good football as we looked to win the ball back quickly and push high up the pitch. There was a lack of quality in the final third but it wasn't for a lack of trying, we came out to try and score goals. In the second half, Everton came out and played much better than they had in the first half, it pushed us onto the back foot and forced us into a more savvy away performance against a strong opponent. I think people just look at the scoreline and react sometimes, we clearly had more speed to our play and put a lot more crosses into the box, which people have been crying out for.
 
How often in the old days, would a player have just got knocked out and back on the pitch? not that i'm condoning what AVB done, as it was wrong to allow Lloris to re-enter the pitch, just you can imagine some of our legends watching that and thinking "bravery from hugo", madness and unprofessional, but on a side note kudos to hugo for showing commitment to the side.

However going back to AVB, it was unprofessional and I believe he allowed his selfish reasons for not trusting Brad, who couldn't act in a sweeper like Lloris (who saved us from conceding), to allow Lloris to re-enter the pitch and ultimately put his health at risk.

The facts are: Lloris got a whack on the head and took ten minutes to recover.


The group-think on the BBC thread is shocking. I disagree with the internet armchair medical experts. The brain is protected by the skull; our built-in crash helmet.


I've been knocked out twice in my life. Once from a headbutt to the nose - I woke up 30 seconds later. Once while riding a push-bike at speed when I hit a lampost - I woke up almost instantly. It doesn't take long for your senses to return. There's no lasting damage for the vast majority.


This is football, not rugby, boxing or that funny American sport. You may go the whole season without a whack to the head. How many players can you name that have had serious brain trauma over the years? I'm struggling to think of a single one.


Who is the best judge on how the player feels? That would be the player. Kudos indeed to Lloris for being head-strong and carrying on.
 
Its a fair point Inda, we're all guilty of this at times, we get trapped in the modern way of "paranoid thinking" regarding any sort of possible medical issue, and notice the warnings are always about the most drastic and extreme outcomes? (which rarely happen).

Like I said and like you said, Kudos to Hugo for showing commitment to the side and yes on paper there was a chance his health was at risk, i mean you remember a few weeks back Avb said the FA where putting our players careers at risk? by making us play two games in 2 days? was that extreme paranoid thinking from AVB? .........everyone is guilty of it at some point!
 
Boss,Inda understand where you are both coming from,but surely putting aside Hugo's heroics there is the what if scenario.
The doomsayers damn the club for lack of action, but surely there has to be a point where the medicos say I know you feel ok but we just want to make sure you are - what is wrong with that.

Please don't fall into the tabloid trap of faux shock over this story. It's a nothing story. Lloris received a knock on the head, took a few minutes to recover, was given the once-over by our (top quality) medical staff, and played on.

End of story.

The only one I can think of is poor Jeff Astle and that came from heading a ball that was too heavy. If I'd played in the sixties I would have avoided heading the ball every time, unless there was glory to be had (think Gary Lineker)

I guess it doesn't justify the risk taken entirely but it does mean that Hugo will suffer no lasting damage hopefully and retrospectively vindicates AVB and the medical team, not of the risk taking though but thats a call they had to make and it seems that they have luckily made the right one here, it would seem by luck rather than judgement. I also can't remember the same fuss being made of Townsend, who I believe knocked himself out briefly (or at least took a hefty blow to the head) when he fell more than his own height into a concrete pit the other week and was then praised for his bravery in coming back on straight away....

Townsend was different, we would have gone down to 10 men. In that situation they should risk their lives in the cause.

I don't like these "what if scenarios" after the event. They can reach the point of ridiculousness.

What if a plane fell out the sky at that particular moment? Well it didn’t, so why mention it?

What if Lloris collapsed? What if Lloris let a goal in? What if he died on the pitch? Well he didn’t, so why mention it?


There’s nothing wrong with the medical staff looking over a player. There’s everything right with it. There was another professional on the pitch with a decision to make and Lloris made it. Only he could know the state of his mind. In the sixties (before my time), he would have had a wet sponge shoved in his face and asked the ultimate medical diagnosis question of “how many fingers am I holding up?” - nothing wrong with that either, and those players from the sixties have mostly made it through to old age.


AVB is getting abuse today for keeping Lloris on the pitch and it is unwarranted. The manager trusting all his staff is something to be welcomed. Players taking change of their own welbeing should also be welcomed.


On a final note, Townsend is OK after his fall. The broken bones in his hand didn't affect the way he stuck the ball. Spurs' don't roll around on the floor crying, we get on with the game.
 
For a start Avb does have full confidence in Friedal that's why he was ready to come on.

Secondly after the knock on the head, Lioris made a great save when he rushed out. I recall making the comment 'thank god Lioris is still in goals, Friedal would not have budged from the line'

We need to stop bashing Avb at every perceived opportunity..Plus if a Chelsea fan knocks Avb I'd automatically do the opposite.
 
Who else would have come on if Lloris couldn't play on? Defoe? . If AVB had full confidence he wouldn't have taken the risk, it was because he knew we needed Lloris in goal to operate as a sweeper.

I'm not complaining! As I mentioned Lloris saved us, but it highlights how Vital Lloris is to our defensive game and we should be looking at bringing in a keeper of similar attributes.

Brad is too old now for what we need, great keeper for many years but I'm not convinced Avb has enough confidence in his game.
 
I really don't understand the issue tbh.

Hugo would have known whether he could continue or not, and as was shown he wasn't concussed which is the main thing. Being knocked out without concussion is quite different to what happened to Flamini or even Cech vs Hunt a few years back.

not only did the keeper say he was fine, but he proved it by making a fanstastic stop (which I agree Brad may not have dealt with so well). For all the nay sayers saying something could have happened, I really dont see what could happen in the 10mins he was on the pitch that someone would be able to stop if he had walked straight of the pitch. 10minutes is nothing, and all the worst case scenarios i've heard are from slowly formed problems that would not be noticable untill after the match was completed whether he had played or not.

Lastly, the BBC is as bad as SKY for dramatising things these days, and alot of the time they get key things wrong. Look how many Bale articles they posted without any actual story to go off other than Marca articles, or the repeated mention of the "flare" that wasn't a flare.

The fact is Spurs are very newsworthy of late due to:

fans being attacked by Lazio/Roma thugs
Yid chants,
Smoke bomb hitting lino
Stadium/redevelopement issues/NFL/Olympic park bid
Bale - Goals last year, POTY and Madrid
spending £85m
AVB having a pop at the fans
the change in playing style generally (Savage has an article on it today)

This is just another thing for them to add to the site, and for the rags to fill space.
