Steve Bruce says Mike Riley, the refs chief, has rung him to apologise for Sunday pen decision at Spurs. Ref admits he got it wrong. #hcafc

How can the FA penalize him then for disagreeing with a refs decision which both PointyNose and Oliver agree was wrong. Doesn't make sense!!

Because most of the FA are idiots.

I feel sorry for Greg Dyke, he seems to be the only person in there who actually makes some sense.

Tough to take after Gareth Barry too, what justice is there, Bruce should be warned about his terminology and let off a fine. We must be due some roundabouts

Only problem is it doesn't get us back the 3 points. Bruce is absolute class, just love him.

It's about time managers are allowed to say if they feel a decision is wrong, without getting punishment.

I disagree. It doesnt matter if the ref is right or wrong, it's still wrong of Bruce or any manager to say the decision was a 'joke'. He can say in a calm manner that he thinks the ref got the decision wrong but to be honest I think he went too far. We're always going on about setting an example to kids and clearing up the game so we cant complain when someone is fined for coming out with comments like this or if players surround a ref pushing and shoving when he gets the decision wrong.

They are allowed to say if a decision was wrong. They cant call it a joke.

I suspect the joke comment would be a reprimand.
The killer comment came after that. Steve Bruce went on to say "he couldnt wait to give it"... that comment suggests Oliver favoured Spurs and thats the one he will pay for...
Even though we know he was probably only saying what we were all thinking!

Also implied he should be sacked by saying 'if I made decisions like that I would expect the Chairman to sack me'.

So basically we all agree he went too far with his comments then?

    Good point .
We all know that these immediate post match interviews are great TV but managers will always overstep the mark with adrenaline still high.

If Riley has stated that Oliver got it wrong, then that unlike most of these after match comments by a manager that are also emotive, but fundamentally wrong, should be the end of the matter. However we know the FA will act like the plonkers and arbitrators of double standards that they are to line their own pockets, and in doing so undermine their own position and lose further respect yet again.

I was actually quite pissed off with the ref up until he gave us the penalty on Sunday so I think it's a bit silly of Bruce to say what he did, which implied bias and is always going to get him in trouble.

The worst one I can remember is when Allardyce got fined for his comments after a game at Old Trafford. In that game not only did the ref give a penalty for handball to United but he then turned down a near identical handball appeal for West Ham. After the game Allardyce understandably came out with comments saying that United get the decisions at Old Trafford and that if one penalty is given the other has to be too. He got fined for implicating that referees are biased but what he actually said is what we've all known about refs at Old Trafford for a long time and worse still, he actually had pretty indisputable evidence for his case as the ref saw both incidents and only gave the one penalty.

Anyway, consider the one major decision going against you as a blessing. Against Stoke a couple of years back the ref missed Crouch handballing it in the build up to their opener, Huth elbowing the ball off the line, another less clear penalty shout and then he sent off kaboul for a nothing challenge. On top of that Adebayor got called offside by the lino for this:

There was a better photo that showed exactly when the ball was played just how far onside he was(about 2/3 feet) but the site it was on went bust but as you can see the ball has already been played and he's still well onside in that photo.

Anyway, be grateful you got an apology and expect more bad decisions to come against big sides. There are few better placed than Manchester City fans to judge the difference in refereeing between being a side at the bottom and a side at the top. Whenever I've spoken to one about it they've said they see a big difference in the decisions they get now they're challenging for the title, unfortunately that's the way it is. The best thing to do is to not hold grudges like I do :D

Expect Steve Bruce to get a token slap on the wrist with a fine.
He's not going to miss the money with being a multi-millionaire, so expect him to just laugh it off.
Just don't need him to ever overstep the mark enough to get a touchline ban.

I was annoyed the event, but reflecting on it we got some dodgy decision given for us in the West Ham match, so luck isn't completely against us.

I really don't get how they can punish Bruce after Riley rang him up to apologize. Bruce was right to say as it was a joke of a decision as it was proven to be an incorrect decision.
