We beat Watford with a penalty, IIRC.
Well the interwebs don't seem to share my fake memory of a penalty shoot-out win a few years ago.
So hang on - England have won a penalty shoot-out more recently than Spurs before tonight?!

People right us off because it's easy. We're an unfashionable Club and people see us as completely inferior and punching above our weight. Everybody, including most pundits except the ones that actually research what they're talking about, thought we'd be whipping boys but our defence has been the strongest aspect of our team since relegation from the top flight last time.
We've lacked a clinical goal scorer for ages now, and our defence is the only thing that has kept us in a strong position. Last Season for example; we were promoted automatically without having a single player score more than 8 goals. We're resolute and hard to beat, with a bunch of hungry and determined players being backed by a Manager who is trying to redeem some lost pride.
Great game tonight by the way, was the polar opposite to Sunday's match. It's just our luck that we'd go out on Penalties, but at least we can focus on the League now. Good luck for the rest of the Cup, I've always liked Tottenham. I reckon it's a top four finish beckoning for you guys. We'll hopefully be returning to White Hart Lane as a Premier League Club next Season!

. that's all I really know.I missed the game completely last night due to other commitments.
Has anyone got decent highlights footage of the game + the penalty shoot out? (Inda?) !
Well last night AVB got what he wanted, the atmosphere at the Lane was really good. Nowhere near it's best but definitely good enough and a vast improvement.
Performance wise... We played "better" than on Sunday yet still created very, very little. I don't think Jakupovic had to make a save despite the fact we had loads of possession. There was a great work rate from players it has to be said, Vertonghen, Walker, Dembele, Paulinho all ran their hearts out but at times it felt as though it was in vein as when we were getting into the final third, we were doing nothing with the ball.
Was great seeing Kaboul back, baring in mind he's still returning from injury and not fully fit, to get 120 mins and a penalty under his belt was great. Also made two improtant last ditch tackles.
Felt so sorry for Lamela, that miss has probably smashed his confidence even further, as if he wasn't already finding it tough. So glad we won the shootout though as had we lost, I genuinely think the lad would've cried. Was probably his best performance for us last night, still didn't actually do much but he got a bit more involved and started to take players on as the game grew.
For me Kane was MOTM, he came on and looked really lively. Had a disallowed goal, smashed the crossbar with a rocket and then got his deserved goal and our equaliser. Took a great penalty too. Well done to the lad, I've always felt he could make it here and I'd love for AVB to give him more chances in the League. Especially as Defoe isn't getting any younger and Ade continues to pick up £100k for training.

Typical Spurs isn't it? Spend £100mill and then find Kane and Townsend are better anywayReally pleased for Kane and I'd like to see him given a chance in the Europa League after last night, he finally looked comfortable playing at a competitive level.
Anyway without doubt the most disappointing thing about yesterday is that we didn't outplay them in the second half as they'd become more open and attacking. I didn't think it was boring but we still lacked ideas in the final third which is worrying as there was more space and time. It's pretty embarrassing watching the defending for the goals again too, for the first one they had about 5 players running in the box but only our centre backs seemed to have noticed this and the rest stood around on the edge of the area.
Haha yeah, sods law. But fair to play to them too for not letting their heads get down at the influx of talent being brought in and therefore fighting for their places instead of just wanting out.
I've always thought Kane had that spark and hopefully if he gets more chances he'll show what he's all about.
Their equaliser was in my end and it just looked like a number of errors, first failing to clear lines properly and then when the ball came back from Elmohamady the defence didn't react quick enough and Brad was left embarrassed, though he more than made up for it in the shootout.
I could only really see the ball hit the net when McShane got their second so couldn't see who was marking him/ who to blame.
Yeah I agree wasn't boring but as you say, we lacked ideas - not for the first time either.
Everton is going to be a massive test. Not just in terms of strength of playing squad but the fact that Vertonghen, Walker, Paulinho, Dembele, Gylfi all got 120 mins and are likely to feature Sunday. I'd love to see Kaboul play but I think it's too much to ask from him at the moment.
Yeah you're right about the first, it looked like we were trying to play there players offside(and they all were but no one really picked up the short pass to Elmohamady and from there it was a mess, Dembele chose not to try and get back and dawdled on the area(I think another did too) and Naughton was too slow trying to chase up Davies and the rest. Really poor. Not sure who was supposed to pick up McShane but he won the header in the 6 yard box, for me that's Friedel's area, and it simply wasn't good enough. Perhaps if we scored from corners(Tiraspol aside) then I might be more forgiving but it really was ****.
I feel asleep on 105 mins and only woke up at 7-7!

What a goal from Sigurdsson! Absolute class.
Nice assist from the much maligned Naughton too, had Eriksen made the pass it may have got mentioned!
Siggy's an awesome goal scorer, one of the best finishers in the side alongside Soldado and Defoe.
Problem with Gylfi is that he doesn't do much else in games, so if he's not on the score sheet you end up wondering how he made it onto the pitch. Yet when he's scored it's like "Yay for Gylfi, wooohoooo!".
